According to sources, the Chicago White Sox have had discussions with Ozzie Guillén and will interview him for their vacant managerial role next week.

Guillén's name has been linked to the role since it became clear the team would be looking for a new manager. Some fans think Guillén is the perfect manager to get the best out of the roster. Some fans would rather have a candidate without previous ties to the White Sox.

As for Guillén's stance, he has expressed interest in having the conversation.

"It is not in my plans. I don't know if it is in the White Sox' plans," Guillén said on NBC Sports Chicago earlier this month. "Even if they think I can help them for next year, I'm very open to listening to it."

But Guillén agrees with fans calling for his return.

"Let me be cocky," Guillén said. "Nobody in baseball knows this ballclub better than Ozzie Guillén."

I'm hoping Hahn gets the final call on this manager after kow·towing to the horrible TLR Jerry choice.

My son just called and said that it is Hahn's choice as manager, Joe Espada.

Ozzie texted back a request to W&S that he'd be on the show today at 5:30. If it materializes we'll see but might be interesting to listen to.

I wonder what message Ozzie’s son left on Terry Boers’ answering machine.

There wasn't any. It's just that he's not demonstrably better than many other candidates they were considering. That fact makes it hard for me to get too excited.

The world was a saner, happier place when Ozzie Guillen was managing the White Sox. I will say that.

Maybe. Then again, there are several sources that said that it will be announced once the Astros season is over.

If they are keeping all their LatinX players Ozzie is the obvious choice.

He's the choice of all my screen names.

Think it has more to do with Bryce Harper hitting over .400 in October with 10 extra base hits.

IS it really your contention that Robby Thomson is a "better" manager than Joe Girardi? If so, when and why did Girardi start to suck? He used to be considered the best in the business. I remember Cub fans crying when he wasn't hired.

Because here's the truth. You can only tell me who the "good" managers are after the guys who actually have to hit and pitch are successful.

You could make that argument about every manager or coach. I guess you're arguing for playground ball. Roll the balls and bats out there and let the players figure everything else out.

with shifts/different defensive alignments and greater reliance on bullpens/shorter starts managers have become more important
than ever. even still, it's probably at most a 5 game plus-minus swing/10 games in the standings btw
a good and bad manager. The post-season is where managers earn their pay, but bad managers are never making it that far, or at least not beyond the 1st round. You're not winning the World Series with a Robin Ventura or Brad Ausmus but you're not guaranteed a World Series with a Francona or LaRussa. And a good pitching coach can cover up for a bad manager.

Bullshit. "terrible" manager Ned Yost made 2 World Series and won one in consecutive years.

The bad guys can get lucky in every sport. Joe Torre should get more love than he does. Having the best roster doesn't guarantee you anything in baseball's playoffs.

There aren't often good managers. Mostly just bad ones. The White Sox have had, IMO, 2 good managers in my lifetime(Tanner and Guillen). The rest were bad or inconsequential. Giradi was bad, has always been bad, so Thomson is at least inconsequential.

You've been around so long yet you don't know this. Most MLB managers are bad. They've always mostly been bad. You've rationalized it into "they don't matter" because you can't get your head wrapped around the fact that bad is ingrained in the MLB managerial institution. It's why Billy Beane has his foot surgically attached to asses of his managers.
