McCaffrey brought a good haul, do see the NFL needing to go back more to the run due to the defenses adjusting and going with smaller quicker players, teams are also dropping safeties and forcing QB's to take short passes and slowly move down the field.

The Bears are a prime example of this philosophy and the front 7 is getting bitch slapped around.

Still do not see Montgomery brining back much more than a late round pick, but he is likely not here when the team is relevant, so why not pick up as many draft picks as possible.

They may be able to get a compensatory pick for Montgomery if he walks in free agency. I forget how that system works.

IIRC it depends on the free agents a teams signs vs the ones they lose. If the Bears sign a bunch of guys like many here think they will I think that offsets the compensation.

Picking up late round picks helps fill out the roster, but carving out even more cap room may allow you to sign proven starters.

There are a ton of one-year deal signed to cheap deals that are getting tons of playing time, none of them are stepping up and showing any reason to extend or keep them around.

If Poles used his resources well he will be able to significantly upgrade the roster, but he must hit on early picks and find playmakers or he will join the large group of failed Bears GM's.

Everyone who demanded Poles mortgage the future and sign their favorite offensive free agents were wrong. None of these guys have been worth the investment. Most haven't been better than the guys Poles signed.

They should definitely wait until next year to mortgage their future.

Considering Pickens is dominating his rookie year, and Kevin White didn't play at all his rookie year, I'm not seeing the comparison

300 yds and a TD is dominating the season?

Kid looks to be good and I definitely wish the Bears had him, but lets not get crazy.

Keep in mind, he's their 3rd or 4th option. The coverage is different for your 3rd or 4th option

Caller Bob also wanted the Bears to sign every free agent with a name this offseason. So far, none of them would have been worth the investment.

Pickens was consistently rated as a boom or bust prospect, with the glaring needs in the secondary and two guys with higher grades still available, I can see why Poles went in that direction.

Poles will certainly have ample resources to bring in a number one WR, will be interesting to see where he prioritizes that position, he could spend quite a bit of his cap space to either chase a #1 WR or to fill the 6-8 slots on the Oline and Dline he needs to upgrade dramatically. The interior play on both sides of the line is embarassing at best right now, maybe one of the worst front sevens in the NFL defensively, thought the HITS crap would get guys to play gap sound football, but these guys are barely NFL level talents, backups at best with most teams.

The DE's are all horrific against the run, maybe take a page out of uncle Dick Jauron's playbook and put one of the DT's at DE and just tell them to seal the edge. If I see the DE's get sucked inside and lose outside contain on a boot again I may throw my remote at the TV.

He can significantly upgrade the LB position in the second and third rounds of the draft, just a bunch of undersized goofs there now.

Looking at the 2023 potential WR free agent class, I don't see guys who are legitimate #1 receivers. Jakobi Meyers is probably the best, but he isn't exactly a premier game changer. You generally have to draft or make a trade for players like that.

JuJu has been well worth the contract he signed.

That's fair. Do you want to pay him as a #1 next offseason?

Juju catching passes from Mahomes is a lot different than what the Bears would have been able to do with him.

At some point, the Bears are going to have to make an aggressive move to upgrade the WR room, not sure if people are aware of that.

That's via trade or draft. Jakobi Meyers looks like the top free agent right now. He would be an upgrade for the Bears. I doubt you want to pay him #1 money IF the Patriots don't tag him.

I would offer the Steelers a 2nd for Claypool.

At some point, yes indeed.

There are times where a team should NOT go crazy spending cash on WRs. There is at least one person who is not aware of that.

Most are aware just fine...it's the HOW. After years of throwing away draft picks, that's no longer an option. There are multiple areas to fix and those draft picks (and using them wisely) are the most important factor.

It takes more than one season to cleanup the mess Pace made. Bob....you're just gonna have to live through this season of a really bad team and have a little patience before we run Poles out of town.

It's a one year clean up. The dead weight is mostly gone. They can see which players are worth keeping around.

Neither did Ryan Pace, and that got his team a 48-65 record and zero playoff wins.

I'll give Poles the benefit of the doubt until next season.

Still sitting on 6.6 million in cap space. Is this year Zero for Poles? Did someone in Halas Hall tell him to wait until next year to start the re-build?
