NFHS rules seem to say spotting it where it went out is correct

Quote:
Spotted where it becomes dead. Clock starts on snap.
No fourth down fumble rule.

That is correct.

Thanks for the answer guys.

Just seems crazy that a team can gain yards when no one has possession of the ball.

But glad to know they got the ruling correct.

Under possession...even a loose ball is considered to be in team possession. I'm a big believer that those that spend so much time watching pro or college football don't realize the rule differences. It made officiating youth football oh so fun. No coach, DPI or defensive holding are not automatic first downs. Yes coach, defensive holding is a ten yard penalty. Yes coach, an unsuccessful field goal that crosses the goal line is a touchback, you don't get the ball from the place if the kick...etc...

Years ago at an MC game, De La Salle had a couple of punts blocked. The rest of the game they just attempted FGs on 4th down.

I watched the end. Good play call.

These teams are not even close to being in the class of MC, or L O Y...

Tony Turado should have stayed to play baseball with Young Crest.

Who can beat them?

That QB has quite an arm.

That Mt. Carmel - Loyola game was great, better than most bear games.

Rice,Prospect and Hersey are plausible. Though I doubt any of them do.

My Rockford Guilford Vikings made the playoffs for the first time since I think I was in High School.

Tough conference with Boylan, Auburn, Harlem, and Honenegah. My alma mater made it with a 4-5 record and gets Mt. Carmel.

I don't think they can aspire to be. Loyola HC could very easily be a college HC tomorrow and at least a high staffer in the pros. They are a machine. They don't even have the greatest of talent year after year. They are just good everywhere and precise in their work. MC will almost always have the best talent on the field against anyone they play. You watch their younger teams and you see the next wave, who would be moved up to varsity already in lesser programs.

My son was saying last night that, unlike his team, the backs are not bigger than some of the lineman. He had always been a lineman, and he had a good amount of playing time on both OL and DL this year. However, since grade school graduation he has gotten taller and thinned out. He also dropped weight from the conditioning since June. So now he is playing at 160. At least two times he was going head to head against opponents listed at 320 on the program (as freshman).

Hickabore is the #1 overall in 5A. They lucked out and didn't get bumped up to 6A or down to 4A, where they would get pasted. But in 5A?

I miss the high school days when Oswego, Batavia and Morris would run a train on them.

I'm happy schools don't want to aspire to be Loyola. That's a good thing. But the execution in the game last Friday was way less precise, and that can be coached.

But the big difference is the top end size of high school kids these days. There was a couple at 280 years ago. Now there are numerous kids above 3 clicks like you said. It's nuts to think your son is facing kids at a size where NFL DB's are even bigger than him.

I was surprised at how small the backs were in the MC-LOY game though.

Holocek started at SICP. He made them good and moved on. They subsequently had a guy who was pretty good and he left for an under varsity position at MC. The coach now is a young guy trying to establish himself but I'm sure he'll eventually leave. It's a stepping stone job where you have to move because there can be some major regression year to year. They do have a lot more talent though. That junior lineman is the top recruit in the state and has gotten offers from Alabama on down. They stole a guy from a traditional MC family. He's a really nice player but typically undersized.

This year in state playoffs looks like the cream of the crop will rise again.....But the one thing that always makes me feel kinda bad in a way is these bigger CPS schools who are likely decent teams and do well over the year and then get pasted in the state playoffs right away.

7A Lincoln Park goes 7-2, gets a 16 seed and gets rolled 49-0 by Downers Grove North.

8A Lane - same thing 7-2, 16 seed, rolled 37-0 by Neuqua Valley

one selective enrollment and the other semi selective. The selectives play absolute dogshit competition during the year in every sport. I can't tell you the number of meathead parents in the neighborhood I have heard through the years talk about their athletic kids at Northside, Payton, Lane, etc. They think its a GOOD sign that their kid is playing a varsity sport as a freshman.

Lane not getting running clocked is basically a win.

Ignatius vs East St. Louis in the 6a finals looks likely.

In 4A Johnsburg goes 5-4 and blows out Hyde Park 54-8 (15 beating a 2) while Marengo gets drilled 63-0 by St. Laurence (3 killing a 14). Richmond Burton gets a team in round two that lost to Hyde Park. I do remember a few years ago having a first round game at Lane where Mather at 8-1 was hosting a 6-3 Grayslake North. GN was winning 21-0 at the half and the kicker for Mather asked me if it was a running clock and I told him no...40 points. He said, watch this, we're reading to go eat...they kick off and it's returned for a TD. Next series Mather fumbles deep in their territory and GN scores. Like the kicker said, it didn't take long.

I really hope ND can beat Waucanda and set up a third round game of ND @ SICP. Divided house (not that my nd son cares).

On the other side of that 6A bracket, Kenwood and ESL would be a hell of a semi final. Kenwood has several D1 recruits.

That we've found that kind of success still stuns me. Turner runs a helluva program.

Oswego and Batavia would still paste them if they would actually schedule them. They have overtaken Morris now. I am just pissed that my Knights get their asses handed to them by the Spartans each and every year. That old conference was a beast back in the day. They only winnable games for us were Sycamore and Yorkville.

Alma Mater going up against a #1 ranked Lincoln Way East team this Saturday afternoon. Gonna be a tough one. High school football very unpredictable though so we will see.

Yeah, if they win state this year, they will have gone through a 3-loss Carmel team and a 4-loss Nazareth team and whatever turd floats up from downstate. 4A has Providence, Joliet Catholic, Richmond-Burton (who whipped their ass by three touchdowns last year at Sycamore), Sacred Heart Griffin, etc. The remaining teams in 6A would beat them too. Loser townies are happy.
