He's Beef Rockmore, an homage to former teammate Mike Ditka.

Darkside, I remember Johnny, Jeannie Morris, and his "Blueplate Specials" during football season were fixtures at CBS 2 for about 3 decades...Without revealing my age, Johnny was lead sports anchor dating back to when Bill Kurtis & Walter Jacobson anchored "THE TEN O'CLOCK NEWS" with John Coughlin doing the weather. How's that for a blast from the past? I remember he & Tim Ryan, not the onetime Bears' defensive lineman during the Wannstedt years, also called Bears' games in the early '80s when CBS Sports had the NFC package. The Tim Ryan I'm referring wears glasses, used to call boxing back in the day on CBS with Gil Clancy, called skiing on both CBS & NBC, plus has recently called college football on ESPN... It seems hard to believe as well, but I think Tim & the late Al McGuire were on the call for CBS when Syracuse won an NCAA Basketball tournament game, and in the postgame, McGuire actually danced at courtside with a couple of the winning players... Anyway, Johnny retired in the mid '90s at WBBM-TV. I think his replacement was a guy who died way too soon, Tim Weigel, and his son, Rafer, is sports anchor with Robin Meade on Headline News weekday mornings...

Dr., let's not forget "The Mike Ditka Show", complete with Howard Sudberry & all that woofing, before Arsenio Hall and that stupid "Fan Deck" on the uneven NBC 5 "Sports Sunday" postgame...

I am hoping you went to the media guide to check the proper spelling of "Neill". If you knew that right off the top of your head, I worry about the valid knowledge that has been displaced by random Bears minutiae.
P.S. Which name has two "A"s? Rashaaaaan or Sallaaaam?.

Let's check. David Williams' Thanksgiving OT kickoff return took 21 seconds.

Nope. Still plenty of room for useless information.

I thought his name was Davey? Have I been taking bar bet money under false pretenses all these years? And I do remember that moment--dropped a turkey wing right on the orange shag carpet.

I think he went by Dave Williams. Good 'ole number 22 if memory serves.

What about Jeannie Morris? Didn't she and Johnny have an ugly divorce?

I think so. He's now married to someone much younger.

You are correct, Doc. Dave Williams wasn't wearing the #22 for very long after he ran that kickoff return for the winning touchdown circa 1980...

I remember that return like it was yesterday. Hard to believe it was almost 30 years ago. Time for my Geritol.

Rafer Weigel, who I think is the lovechild of Ryan Seacrest & John "Bradshaw" Layfield from the WWE & FOX Business, actually tried acting before becoming sports anchor on Robin Meade's "Morning Express". I believe he was on a short-lived TV show with Jenny McCarthy whose name escaped me in the late '90s, plus he was a VJ at VH1 when they actually played music videos... His acting wasn't that good, so he shifted over to sportscasting like his famous father, Tim. While Tim was a Chicago TV fixture for decades, Rafer was a sportscaster in Sacramento, CA before he joined CNN Headline News and Robin's popular morning show.
