One of Teinowitz's all time favorite players IIRC.

was a legend, even during his playing days. raiders had a very professional ray guy. we had parsons, where the rolls of belly fat would jiggle after every booming 38 yard punt. if parsons hit one 42 yards, johnny morris and tim ryan would want to throw a party.

rip to a great kicker.

In Stabler's book he said Guy had the best arm on the team. He made a great grab on a bad snap by Todd Christensen in Super Bowl XVIII. He was a real football player.

I remember when the Heavy Fuel Crew used to have weekly segments with Christiansen, and after one segment where he was particularly pompous and smug, Mac wondered out loud if they should ever have that douche on again. I'm pretty sure they did not.

His final wish was to be buried in the coffin corner.

In his first book, John Madden told the story of Guy being totally pissed that Madden wasn't going to let him practice at safety during Guy's first training camp. Guy was a safety in college and he didn't see why he couldn't play safety in the NFL and still punt.

This wasn't that far from the era when several team's punters were either backup QB or backup TE.

There is a story from the infamous Bears Raiders bloodbath in 1984 that Guy was hiding on the sidelines because he was the third QB. Marc Wilson got pounded and left the game so it was David Humm then Guy at the QB position.

I never got the hate that many old time HOF voters had against him. Anti punter bias I get, but he was so special to push through that imho.

Yeah that was a close call for McMahon they thought he ruptured his kidney which would have been a career ender. There's a great book called "You're Ok Its Just a Bruise" and it opens with that game.

I don't think he punted a lot, but didn't Randall Cunningham have a 95 year punt or something?

Tom Tupa's career arc always cracked me up.

I don't understand why punters today don't use the coffin corner.

Easier to be blocked and they have perfected kicking the nose of the football and it coming down like your best 60 degree wedge.

Franky is a solid stick, he knows how to hit that low spinner with the 60.

Cunningham had an 80 yarder if memory serves me correct.

i think it was a 90-yarder and I want to say it was on 3rd down - a quick kick that rolled end-over-end forever. I remember it and hating randall cunningham.

He's still one of my favorite players ever

I hated that they lost to Atlanta that was the worst game ever . Like every other play that year was a jump ball to Moss

my favorite game of all time was when the Bears took out so many Raider QBs that Ray Guy had to take snaps at the position
