didn't work out so well with LaRussa

I don't blame LaRussa for them being mediocre last season.

The Sox are just a dumb franchise. That's why their answer to a disappointing season is to get rid of their best player.

Abreu is only good enough to help a World Series team. Besides the Sox can only find room for Vaughn at 1st base.

This is the point...A Sox team that lost it's power can't have an (albeit great one) 1st baseman who just hits singles..I don't know anyone who doesn't like/respect Abreu and what he brings on the field and in the clubhouse...but you need home runs from that spot.

First, it's quite an assumption that Abreu "lost power" rather than just having a down power year. Second, you're replacing him with a guy who hit two more homers than he did.

I think Vaughn is gonna give ya Mike Sweeney stats at 1B.

They are not getting power at 1st with Vaughn.

One of the biggest issue on this years team was the culture/effort area. So it makes no sense to not bring back one of the few guys who actually did things the right way.

I'm not saying Vaughn is the answer, but you can't expect a guy that's averaging 23 HR's a year over the last 5 years to have a breakout season at his age. It's the situation the Sox are in with the contracts they hold and the lack of success over the last few years.

Guys found a million reasons to be injured and miss games last year. Abreu played without legs. Somehow, he was still faster than Hahn's favorite catcher.

Sucks that Jose is gone. Vaughn's gotta take a few steps this year. He wasn't especially good last year.

I like Vaughn. He seems like a gamer and he got a lot of timely hits. I think there was room for both players.

For a team that struggles to put asses in seats, you would think they would see the $$ in a farewell tour.

Chicago media will tell you that Hahn is great. He's responsible for everything that goes well and Uncle Jerry and Kenny are responsible for every fuck up.

The best team in baseball has now acquired the best position player and the second best pitcher off the White Sox.

It's possible. You can't expect these guys to go forever. But I'm sure they could have gone year-by-year with Abreu if they had shown him interest/respect. And it's not that difficult to find a first baseman.

Do you think Vaughn will ever have a better year than Abreu did last season? I have my doubts.

Yes. I think he can put up a higher OPS than .824 and probably play better defense. Part of the parting ways with Abreu thing is also getting actual outfielders to play in the outfield. We'll see if they can actually pull that off.

I find it amazing how Abreu basically re-made himself as a hitter. He didn't say it but I think that he decided early on that this team was going nowhere and decided to forego power numbers and instead tried like hell to win a batting championship and came damn close to doing it. Houston doesn't need another guy to hit home runs. Watch them bat him second behind Altuve and bring them an OBP of about .360-370 in their line-up and score a shitload of runs. He'll also be able to take a pitch and let Altuve steal a base, hit it to the right side and move him to 3rd base or drive him in with a single.

I agree. He should have left right after Reinny appointed LaRussa to the manager's job. He lost face in the entire fiasco.

I'm not sure about that. Abreu was a guy who was always bothered by a runner dancing around at second.

I don't get it, I'll never get it. I think the White Sox are swinging the pendulum way too far. Keep Abreu, put Vaughn in left, sign a dude like Nimmo from the Mets, and you've filled the outfield and DH holes. But whatever, it's too late now. Now we have 2/3 of an outfield to fill and uncertainty at 1st. Along with the pressure on Vaughn.

Nimmo's always hurt, though, which is too bad. He might be going to Houston, too.

Don't question Hahn. If it doesn't work out, you can blame Uncle Jerry and his black son for not allowing Hahn to retain these guys.

It's highly unlikely for him to repeat what he did last year.

I would have liked to retain him as a 6th starter.

100% agree. I would be looking to Lopez to start. They need to start addressing the lack of SPs in the minor league system as well.

I don't know. Health could have been an issue, but his approach could be duplicated. It wasn't a case of him turning back the clock on his stuff. He just kept hitters off balance with different deliveries and release points.

Correct. He made himself deceptive when his stuff went. A smart guy can go a long time doing that.
