It's not rocket science, just watch what the Eagles did last night, run the ball until you get one on one matchups with your big WR, just put the ball up in his vicinity and he catches it or gets a PI/holding/illegal contact call most of the time.

The current WR group seems lost for the most part with guys either not running the correct routes, or guys who just suck, but the concept is basic and easy, get him a check down, a crosser, and a deep route to the side you roll the pocket, keep working and moving to open spots in zones if he breaks the pocket.

Can only imagine that the dude yesterday checked into some better run fits, and he got the ball to the back a few times in the flat, these are things Fields hopefully saw and can incorporate.

NFL playbooks aren't as simple as you think. One of the primary reasons offensive players aren't traded in season is because of the complexity of the plays and the terminology. Guys get a playbook in March and they're still trying to master it in the preseason. Claypool is months behind his teammates. Expecting him or anyone else to know a playbook in 3 weeks is foolish.

OK, hopefully by next season he can grasp this system. C'mon man, there are a lot of reasons he could be off to a slow start, not the least of which are his QB's aren't good at passing, but to say at this point a veteran receiver who you think is potentially a number 1 on this team can't grasp the Bears passing attack by this point is foolish. Maybe he needs a "study clause" like Murray.

Do guys here realize WRs don't start plays with the ball in their hands?

I don't think he's off to a slow start. I think he's shown the impact he can have on a game with limited opportunities. Even going up against elite cornerbacks.

You're dead wrong about how easy it is for a WR to learn a playbook and all of their responsibilities. It isn't as simple as run this route or that route. The NFL isn't Pee Wee football. I thought a guy like you would understand, but I was wrong. It took OBJ until the SB to get it. That is more than 3 months. He was in a pass happy offense too.

I think Claypool will be fine after the bye week. I'm not sure Fields will complete more than 10 passes a game, but I expect Claypool to be on the field for more than just 15 to 20 plays. He should be on the field for more than 50% of the snaps.

Guys linked to running QBs who throw for 125 yards per game cannot mathematically have 200 receiving yard games. Maybe they can magically. Thought this would be obvious to Man of Few Opinions but guess not.

I just do not get the Bear's failure to throw to Claypool and Kmet. Also, why do they not run short passes to Montgomery. I don't get how cautious that they are offensively.

What are you talking about? I agree with you. I'm defending Claypool. I think the reason he hasn't put up numbers so far is game plan/QB related. Nas thinks its because he hasn't caught on to their sophisticated passing offense yet.

Don't misrepresent what I've been clear about because you think an NFL playbook is similar to what you taught some 8 year old kids. So easy that it can be absorbed in a week.

I don't he's playing less than 20 snaps a game because Getsy thinks Pettis, St. Brown, Pringle or Harry are superior players. I could be wrong about that. Maybe a member of the media will ask.

Good to see one of the longtime goofs in the self appointed "Bears Media" finally coming around to the fact that the D line is a major problem, way to finally get your head out of your ample ass Biggsy!

Expect the hapless idiots in the NFL media to slowly realize the obvious, teams have began to hammer away at the undersized speedy front sevens that the copycat league went toward to counter the short passing game. The undersized DE's and LB's are getting bludgeoned and the cute speedy guys like Roquan Smith tap out quicky after getting trucked by a large angry offensive lineman or TE a few times.

Saw this happen in the Oregon vs Oregon State game, Oregon's D was not real interested in competing in the second half after getting steamrolled in the run game, the game of football does not really change, it will always be won or lost at the line of scrimmage.

Maybe Biggsy can join Parko and start reading here for a bit more diverse take on the beloved.

Talk about misrepresenting - I never said anything about him knowing the playbook in a week. I think it is fair to say that 4 games in he probably has a pretty strong idea what the Bears are doing offensively.

My gosh do the Bears suck in getting QB talent. They are completely inept.

You understand that the bad backup QB threw for more yards against an elite defense in the rain than the starting qb threw for in 2 games against the two worst defenses in the league right ?

What is the difference between a yard gained on the ground vs a yard gained in the air. Is the outcome not the same?

Because eventually your franchise qb is going to have to prove he can throw the football. He's played the 2 worst defenses in the league and the Bears....ran the ball . Thats a problem. So to rag on the backup qb for being bad even though he outperformed Fields numbers against a good to great defense is kinda sorta stupid

If you want to guarantee that you won't win another game, you could start Peterman.

It's also depressing that an injured Siemian was a better passer against a great Jets defense than Fields was against the Lions and Falcons.

Couldn't they have gotten Minshew for not much more than what they're paying Trevor Peterman

If Fields had the same game against the Jets that Siemian had and it was found out he did it with an oblique that required season ending surgery there would be demands for a statue to be erected of him along with his number being immediately retired even while he's still playing.

Siemian ran the offense so effectively that the Bears managed to score 10 points against the Jets!

Before the shot wore off. The pass blocking didn't get him killed outside of that 1 Borom play.

Eberflus, Getsy, and Poles would have been murdered by the Fields cult.

I believe the great weakness of the Bear's defense starts and ends with the weakness of the defensive tackles. Remember when Urlacher was at the top of his game with the Bear's and the best linebacker in all of football? Who was in front of him and his lb buddies? The TWO BUDDAHS, right The two BUDDAHS took care of any blocker getting to Urlacher and stopping or slowing down the running backs freeing Urlacher and Briggs to clean it all up as well as being able to shut down the tight ends and anyone funning into their area of pass coverage.

I've been reading a lot about the upcoming draft both here and one other sites, and I think that the Bears huge first priority is getting two monster defensive tackles. Where those two guys come from I don't care but without them, then everything else on their defense becomes harder.

I don't know if you've ever watched one of the web sites in which Trent Dilfer breaks down Justin Fields and the Bear's offense but if you run into the site, it's really interesting and well done. He was asked by the moderators about Claypool and how long it would take a guy like him to "learn the Bear's offense" and he said straight out, "IN LESS THAN A WEEK". I believe that. This is what is frustrating me greatly about the Bear's offense. I think that they are holding their receivers back based on fear of mistakes that Fields would make. With me, this is wrong. Let him make whatever mistakes that he is going to make and learn from them.

That last game, in particular pissed me off and I believe got him hurt unnecessarily. Those "PLANNED RUNS" that they called in that game were stupid in many cases. Let him do some planned running plays but not in the middle of the field so much and particularly where the big defensive lineman are around to come down on his legs.

I hope that Getsy learns something from that last game because his play calling was terrible. As for Claypool, its not his fault if he isn't catching passes that aren't thrown to him. Look to Getsy for reasons he isn't playing more and being thrown to.
