Spring training will be interesting if the announcers comment on substantial weight gain bulking up by Bellinger like Hoerner last spring. To me that's the only hope a (2 year/800+ab low 600 ops) Bellinger could have an unprecedented comeback. Crane Kenny seemed to be on another page and not all in on Hoyers progress building up the stable of talent. The "super team" whirlwind intensity has to have set Hoyer back on his heels being the smartest guy in the room to now getting his pockets picked unbeknownst to him. They may know if Bellinger is unfixable already just another piece in the charade to parade out there to praise as a "quality human" who does all the right things (except hit).

Waiting for Cubs Twitter to melt down because Vince Velasquez officially signed with the Pirates.

Seems like Hoyer is a bad salesman and has burned alot of bridges with players/agents, etc.

Let's see where things stand when the offseason is over. Lots of FAs still available. Trades could happen.

I am not thrilled with things as they stand, but will wait to see what else they do.

You got really three marquee free agents left out there

Rodon
Correa
Swanson(if you call him that)

They even missed out on a decent catcher, Christian Vaszquez who signed with the Twins. It's one thing to move on from Contreras but they have no plan to replace that production.

If they sign Correa that will help things out tremendously.

Swanson, eh, no thanks...

I would expect at least one trade at some point.

Theo would have had both Correa and Rodon signed by now, and he would be sitting by his fireplace drinking a scotch thinking what low ceiling college pitcher he could draft that would never make it past AA. Jed isn't a "closer".

It’s crazy when you think about all the money they DIDN’T spend on the “core” - Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, Schwarber, Contreras…which is fine, but to miss out on all the big signings would be a bad look.

Swanson would at least be reliable…has only missed two games in the last three years.

His numbers are actually better than I realized. Average not as good as you would like, but he at least has some power.

He's hit .232, .238, and . 248 in 3 of his 7 seasons. How much more is Correa going to cost per season? $5 million? $8 million? He's also got a proven track record of some pop with his bat.

I might be in the minority but I don't want Swanson or Correa. Save it for 2024: Juan Soto, P.Alonzo, Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Willy Adames or Shane Bieber.

Take any of those over Swanson or Correa next year. This year sign Noah Syndergaard and lets go!

I agree with ya, I want to see prospects playing all over the field and see who is worth a fuck. No honor in winning 85 games.

none of their signings this offseason have been confirmed yet, still. neither are listed on the MLB hot stove tracker and the cubs site still has them cited as deals per sources

Um, the Phillies won 87 and made it to the WS.

Would you have liked to have J.Heyward or B.Harper or Machado a year later?

That's how I see it, the Mets will have a 350 mill payroll.. don't spend just to spend, locking guys up and overpay will be another Heyward.

All those players will probably sign extensions and never hit FA. You really think the Padres are letting Soto walk? After all the money they are spending. Ricketts are poor.

I can make it easy for you. Out of the Cubs top 10 prospects, 6 are position players

https://www.mlb.com/prospects/cubs/

Out of those 6 position player prospects, exactly 1 will amount to something in the big leagues.

See how easy that was?

You should be the GM of both the Cubs and the Bears. They both need your insight and expertise.

Correa is a year younger than Swanson. It's just an undervalued piece of what he can add. He's younger than you realize.

My guy says it's 60/40 the Cubs get Correa. Boras is dragging his feet cause he won't get Trea Turner money.
