Are Illini fans really upset? That's how it is being sold. I guess Ryan Walters is the only reason Illinois was good last year.

How are you feeling tommy? Dr. Ken? Did we just destroy your whole program?

I am assuming that Boiler nation is joining in your frustration Brick?

Offensive guy with head coaching experience would be the normal thinking.

They are. The AD held a press conference and said how much better of a job this is than it was 6 years ago when they hired Brohm.

It probably isn't any better than it was 6 years ago and it's not a very good job in college football. Next year will be brutal. Tough schedule and going to have a lot of transfers.

I think this is being sold as a way to do a much better job at recruiting and there are some dominoes that could happen that would help a lot with that but I'd rather have a few other coaches with head coaching experience than this hire.

If he steals enough players from Illinois then maybe I'll change my mind.

they have had decades of success recuiting QB talent that is better than expected for the school. That's a good distinction

Yes. Kinda sucks. Kinda like Buddy Ryan leaving the Bears.

Good for him, though; this is what you do. As long as he has an offensive-minded guy (like a guru for offense, not someone who insults people), he should keep things going. It will be weird to see Purdue with a lockdown defense.

Now with Leach (who surely is in Heaven; no way a man that pure has to spend time in Purgatorio) helping Mississippi State from above, the Illini will have an even harder road to the ReliaQuest championship.

I revise my prediction thus: Illinois 24, Mississippi State 19.

Tiller was a defensive guy, but you'd never know it. Of course, he had Brees....and he also had head coaching experience.

I am curious if Mississippi State will even play in the bowl game.

Tiller was kind of an oddball. He was the DC at Purdue. But he was an OC and Offensive coach for a larger part of his career before becoming a HC. And he clearly had a plan in place for what he wanted to do offensively.

And recruiting one of the greatest QBs of all time definitely helped. If this guy here can recruit the next Brees he should be in a good place.

Absolutely. My cousin coached with him briefly, and he said he was Drew Bledsoe's OC. Interesting guy.

He did have the number 1 D in the country for most of the year, not a bad hire.

Brick see's Purdue as a Destination School, but in reality it's only a "Destination" if you accidently get off on I-65 and head west.

No one loves giving Brick a harder time than me, but this here is not really true. Brick does not view Purdue as a destination job.

Illini should offer the DC gig to Jim Leonhard and hope he takes it. He either coached or played for Bielema
