Not sure about that, FC. He's got the worst talent in the league to "work with." At the same time he hasn't demonstrated he's solved the same issues that held him back during his rookie year: seeing the field and knowing where to go with the ball in a timely fashion. He's holding on to it for too long. It's concerning to still see that after 25+ starts. The way to beat Fields now is the same as it was for (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky: in the words of some GB player, "let him play QB." When fields played QB most of this year, as in when he had to throw, he sucked ass. Obviously he's got to get past that and having better players is only half of the issue. The other half is him changing the way he assesses where to go with the ball and when. Can he do that after 9-10 years of playing the way he has? Not sure.

It's highly unlikely. I've seen nothing in 25 starts that tells me he can.

I get it. I posted more than once that even though he lacks Playmakers and offense, his decision-making has been suspect and he's missed throws one guys are open. But if you're going to move on from Justin Fields, the guy you draft to replace him better be a Mahomes, Burrow, Rodgers type.

Or even a Fields-caliber player with more runway as a low-cap hit to build a team around and do something in the playoffs before you have to either pay em or lose em.

Main reason to maybe go QB this draft vs kick it down the road a year or two is if you're going big in free agency to bring in the next guy with the 2023 free agent signings and have them develop as a team over 2023 and subsequent seasons.

Agreed.

There is no great QB in this class - at least not a sure-fire hit which is too bad. But the Bears can make it seem like there is one.

Keep Fields, trade the pick, build the lines.

Yep. You trade down and get either Anderson or Carter with their first pick and get another 1st rounder later that you can use to address the OL.

He has made enough wow throws to me to show he can do it, I just don't think Fields will ever throw it good enough to win a Super Bowl.
He might not have to. He can run it better than half the running backs in the league.

On top of the wow throws.

Fields is without question the best football player the Bears have had since Urlacher, and MANY are ready to throw the baby out with the bath water tomorrow. It's absolutely insane.

^^^ This guys gets it.

Who was the last Bear to get a sack?

Fields works and he cares and he will get better because he cares.

Focus elsewhere.

What does this mean? He hasn't really gotten better at playing quarterback. What he struggles the most with is likely something he's been able to get away with since high school. You can't pat the ball for 10 seconds in the NFL. You also can't wait until players are high school open before throwing the ball.

His comp% and TD to INT ratio both were better the last eight games of the Season as opposed to the first games. His TDs overall were better. His yards per games also improved which should make you very happy since you like to use passing yards of some sort of benchmark stat.

So whether you want to use actual stats from box scores or made up stats like QBR or QB rating, he did get better playing quarterback.

At least get the stat I've been using right. I've used total yards, which includes passing and rushing. Fields averaged about 200 total yards a game last season, and he jumped to 225 total yards a game this season. That's AWFUL. He's won 5 games in 2 years. He's sucked in those 5 games. Hope is all there is for Fields. He may be the worst passer on the team.

From your keyboard to God's screen if he ever had 10 seconds.

He is about getting better and that goes back to before he was on the Bears. He's a smart, driven guy with generational talent.

I'd prefer not to trade him for a future conditional 1st and a couple mid-rounders.

That generational talent is on display when he activates skills that are secondary to his primary role. Teams can easily neutralize him if that's all he's got in his arsenal.

He had 9 seconds against the Commanders. The point stands. He hasn't shown he can get rid of the ball quickly in college or the NFL. That was probably true in high school. The only pass he's comfortable throwing is the deep ball. You can't throw 30 of those a game.

Trade the pick and fields and cash in. Sign Garoppolo for a year or two if you're not happy with the college QBs.

This is how I feel. The Fields Cult would murder the front office and ownership if they replaced him with Jimmy G. We'll know what Poles and the front office thinks really soon. They'll own his success or failure if he stays.

And he has a fairly slight frame. Unless a team already has a solid O line I'd pass.

I think they can hold one more season and still not have to live or die with Fields. It's a risk, though.....most of us do not think there's a Joe Burrow or Trevor Lawrence in this draft. They wait a year, but you have to hope there's an answer in the 2024 draft.

Jimmy G is a decent stop-gap option...I wouldn't be bothered if they trade Fields and went that route, but yeah....there would be some serious objections from MANY.

One thing I'll say about Poles....he whacked Lamar Campbell just to flex it was HIS organization. If he's really not sold on Fields, he just mighthave the balls to send Fields elsewhere and not waste any time.

Long game, though, I think he protects his career better if he holds one more season.

Whatever the Bears answer QB should be, I don't think it's Bryce Young.

Wrong. If you're going to move on from Justin Fields, the guy you draft to replace him better be a Mahomes, Burrow, Rodgers type or Poles is out of a job and will never be an NFL GM again. If Poles sticks with Fields and Fields doesn't become 'the guy,' he will get one more chance with his QB. It's that simple.

This is the trouble with you being allowed to think.

Trading both gets you closer to winning than trading the pick alone and you can win with a Jimmy G type player. And waiting another year on Fields is only going to hurt the value. Or keep fields and realize the really fast pumpkin is not going to turn into a carriage and you still don't have a QB when you are ready to win.
