Lovie has his faults as a coach, but no one can deny he consistently got the best form his players. There were some really bad Bears rosters that had more wins than they deserved.

Gang, we're going to rotate Peterson and Boyle at quarterback. Elijah Hicks, you're going to get the start at safety. Bears on three!

that Boyle INT was one of the most ridiculous i've ever seen

that said, i had to sweat out Vikings covering until almost the end

Yep. He is a professional coach.

And a credible team the last five weeks. Texans made a mistake as did the Bears, lo those many years ago.

Love him but he is under 500 for his career.

Did you catch any of the University of Illinois years?

Lovie was awful at Illinois. There are countless examples which illustrate that good Head Coaching in the NFL is drastically different than the NCAA. #1 is the whole recruiting thing. It's pretty safe to say Lovie had zero ability to recruit.

What's coaching got to do with college. It's why Saban's so pissy this year. How does car dealerships compete with oil rigs?

Cornjerker U recruits itself. All you gotta do is get the student-athletes on campus, expose them to the board-flat prairie lands and the lumpy corn-fed midwestern gals and they'll sign on for 4 years in hog heaven .

I did. I went to a game in Madison a couple years ago. It was a early snowstorm. Illinois lost. It was a miserable experience. It was cold. They fucking boil bratwurst there man. Boil them. I thought these backwater wisconsionians knew what the fuck to do with a bratwurst but yeah... no they don't. And Lovie gave us some classic clock management. I wanted to jump off a bridge.

If I know anything about traveling in Wisconsin, that bridge was probably under construction for the past 3 years.

Most coaches say they want to win tank games and don't mean it. Lovie Smith is such a blockhead he actually means it.

Lovie Smith knew he was fired before the game started. So a #1 pick wouldn't benefit him.

It was a "Fuck you" to the Texans. Lovie isn't the kind old grandfather he pretends to be. He can be a vindictive SOB.

I blame the Texans. They should have fired him the week before this game. Got some stooge assistant as the coach for one game and forced him to lose the game.

At that point, Lovie didn't owe the Texans anything. You can be a "good man" and still stick it to your shitty employer.

Why is everyone cool with the Houston GM? Fired two coaches back to back after one year each. How does that scream competency? If anything the GM should be launched and Lovie stays.

Would you be ok with him if he fired two white coaches, back to back?

Wouldn't you want a GM that is able to hire a coach that lasts more than one year, regardless of their race?

Seems like an important part of a GM job.

Houston having 5 coaches in 4 years is terrible. I believe we all knew Lovie and Culley were being hired to lose and they would be fired quickly.

The last 3 Texans coaches were black. Can any other team say that?

Houston gets no credit for that. I don't know about the latter two - in most non-Hackett cases, you can't tell what kind of coach you have after only one year, especially in rebuilding situations. No coach no matter the race should work for that clown of a GM unless they're really desperate for a job.

There you go, much better. You can make the argument that Houston is a stupid franchise without your silly race baiting.

If you want to pay me $5M+ to be a positive figure in the locker room and lose for 18 weeks, I'll take that job if I'm on my way to retiring. Romeo, Lovie, and Culley understood the assignment. I'm not arguing the game is fair.

Lovie only steps into a situation like that because he's a Texas guy and maybe something good comes out of it.

He also was a holdover from a terrible team who agreed to lead a terrible team because the GM didn’t have adequate cover to hire an under-experienced McGowan.

And while leading that terrible team, he fucked up the primary goal of the season and the organization will now have to trade every draft pick available for either the #1 pick or Justin Fields.

Lovie was involved in the process of finding a replacement for Culley. Lovie got the organization to see he was the best candidate.

Texans’ HC Lovie Smith never happens without the Flores lawsuit.

He got a bigger check for his troubles, and he still leaves as one of the most respected coaches in football. He'll find a coaching job if he wants one. I don't think he does.
