I agree. Unless Ballard is a tremendous actor, they seem best positioned to win the Ryan Pace award for Draft Day Incompetence.

Indy sacrificing two potentially high first round draft picks for Bryce Young when they can have CJ Stroud at number four seems like a big gamble to me. If the Bears trade fields, all of this changes.

I think you’re discounting the gold fever that seems to take over draft rooms and organizations once they’re convinced they HAVE to have a certain player. They make dumb deals because they’ve convinced themselves they need player x so badly or that he’s the key to the future. It’s how you trade picks to move up one spot to take Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky or any of the other busts that teams convinced themselves they couldn’t live without. Someone will want Young and hopefully it’s the team that’ll give up tons to get him.

that seems like the perfect haul for the bears for a team with this many needs.

I think 2 teams are gonna be aggressive to get a QB, and that is the Colts and Panthers.

I still think the Seahawks are in it. They have two firsts and two seconds and Young can slot behind Geno Smith for a year.

Perfect scenario though is trading down with Indy at 4 and then swindle the Raiders by trading down again for the Raiders 7. With 3 QBs being taken, they would still get the fourth best non-QB, and probably 7 more top 100 picks between this year and next year

Not at all - I am confident someone will trade up if the bears are shopping that pick. I just don’t believe either the Texans or the colts are the teams. I’m thinking panthers, maybe Seahawks, maybe raiders. Teams outside the top 4 who won’t have a crack at young or stroud or maybe even Levis otherwise. No shortage of bad gms and draft day decisions. I think it is a bit unfortunate for the bears that there isn’t a consensus NFL star sitting there, it might limit the size of the offers they get.

Again you're assuming no team is gonna leapfrog Indy to take Stroud. A savvy GM should plant that seed in Indy's mind so they're inclined to trade up.

Then they take Levis and don’t mortgage the future. Of course unforeseeable trades could change things but as it stands, the colts are getting a QB without making an over-the-top trade to the bears. I don’t think 2 teams are trading into the top 3 to get Young, Stroud and Levis 1-2-3.

I think they have to hope somebody falls in love with whoever Houston is likely to take.

Absolutely. A shit team with a not-so-high draft pick. I think the Panthers could fit the bill.

It's more likely that either Stroud or Levis or both are not viewed as top ten quarterbacks by the time the draft starts and that raises the stakes on getting the one who is left or ideally if no one is left then it's Young or bust.

I personally think Stroud will be dropping to the middle of the round similar to Fields.

But even in a situation where Young, Stroud, and Levis all destroy the combine they could go in the top 4 and then sad Indy fans have to hope they can get Stenson Bennett with the 5th pick in the draft.

If Poles is smart he identifies his marks, hires Nas as the hype man for Levis, and puts together a fleecing timeline, he should be be able to aquire numerous draft picks, there should be all kinds of marks who are willing to pony up picks, especially for the grindy mcwhitey QB Irregardless of how the draft plays out.

Well year after year there is no shortage of teams willing to mortgage the future of the entire franchise to try to find the perfect QB. Some team will be dumb enough to do it. Everything is set up just right for the bears EXCEPT it being a year with a “can’t-miss” type QB being hyped up. That won’t stop someone from believing it though, all you need is one bad gm to chase the fools gold.

I know its not the final arbiter of truth but Great Blue North currently lists Stetson Bennet as the 18th QB in this draft group.

and I'm completely on board with drafting a qb at the end of the draft to develop as a good backup

I think you need to find someone that works in the same offense your starter is most comfortable

Malik Cunningham from Louisville is listed as 16th. He'd be an interesting developmental QB.

I think is the problem. the Bears haven't found an offense Fields is comfortable with. They had better invent one this off-season.

He's 14th on their list. I'm fine with a 4th or 5th round project. In better years, I wouldn't have an issue with a 3rd round developmental guy.

we have so many needs, basically everywhere

I'm only drafting 7th or bringing in a UDFA. Maybe Tua's brother from Maryland.

I think we'll see Poles trading down to get more late round picks like he did last year. He believes he can find a lot of gems in later rounds.

If Poles is one of these assholes who thinks he’s going to build a great team off 5th rounders because he’s that much smarter than everybody, I’d like George to give him a ride back to the airport.

The better ride would be Sean Payton driving both George and Poles to the airport. They can also pick up Biggs on the way.

Why? He's not betting his future on 5th round picks. It doesn't hurt to fill out a roster or get developmental guys in these rounds. He hit on Braxton Jones in Year 1. The kid didn't miss a down.

I wished he missed a few downs so he could spend that time in the weight room. He said as much himself.

I think you’re discounting the gold fever that seems to take over draft rooms and organizations once they’re convinced they HAVE to have a certain player. They make dumb deals because they’ve convinced themselves they need player x so badly or that he’s the key to the future.

I want to acknowledge this is 100% accurate. GM's with Gold Fever....I love it

I agree with whoever said Indy and Carolina are the 2 likely teams that will be "aggressive" and do something stupid to move up in the draft.

1. block or enclose with a wall of bricks
2. Proper response would be to ask an endless series of follow ups until the person regrets having spoken to you in the first place.

If Poles is one of these assholes who thinks he’s going to build a great team off 5th rounders because he’s that much smarter than everybody, I’d like George to give him a ride back to the airport.

I don't disagree. We'll see if he takes a leap next season.

for the colts all we need is for irsay to fall in love with a qb. he's their GM now. he'd be dumb enough to give up a lot to get to 1 from 4
