Sometimes my dad would drag me up to State Fair Park in Stallis during non-state-fair season to wander around a big building full of pipe-and-drape booths selling god knows what. I remember being so excited to buy Wolfenstein 3-D for $3 only to be pissed when I realized it was only the first level. I don't know how I thought they'd fit the whole game on a 1.2 MB floppy. My PC in high school was from one of these, too, a big beige box with an obscure brand name long since lost to time. I think I killed it by using KaZaA.

Nabih's was the first computer shop in Evanston. This goes back to the mid-70s. But I think it actually may still exist. One of my friends worked there and got fired pretty quickly. I don't remember why. He then got a job at a place called The Byte Shop on Dempster.

We were always into computers. We bought a kit out of the back of Popular Mechanics and put it together. It was monumental when we got it operational and it successfully added 2+2. Then my friend bought an early Apple via mail order. It was not much more than a circuit board. It didn't have any housing. It would probably be worth a lot of money today.

I was always disappointed with the limits of these machines. I don't know what I expected them to be capable of. I guess just a lot more than they were. When this friend of mine bought an Apple II things got a little more interesting. We played a rudimentary text-based D&D game and then we got something called Akalabeth which was a step up.

Northwestern was running a Go tournament at Norris Center and they needed computers for the event. My friend found out about it from The Byte Shop and we brought his Apple II there to be used in the tournament. Pretty odd that a major university had to borrow computing power from a high school freshman.

That looks fancier than Eamon and Zork. Was more of a D&D on the intellivison fan

I loved Leisure Suit Larry. In the early 90s a couple of my gambling associates stopped by my house at Belmont & Damen to bring me some money. I was playing a game and Larry was about to bang Eve and one of the guys looked at her and said, "She looks like a turf horse." It's funny the things you remember.

No. I don't remember it either. Which side of the street was it on?

I knew one generation of owners. CBOT guys fronted the money and let their underemployed friend manage. I think it was called Bird's Nest before Schanakeys.

I went to computer camp at North Park University in the early 80s. I just couldn't grasp the thing conceptually. I wish I had because they fascinated me.

I recall going to Egghead (sp?) with my Dad to look at games, like Larry Bird Vs. Dr. J. One-on-One.

I've never seen it but I find the androgynous woman from it very attractive.

True story. When I was a young kid and my grandmother was reading me Winnie the Pooh I thought Christopher Robin was a girl and I was strangely attracted, although at that age I didn't understand the feelings I was having. Thank God I was born in the sixties. If I were three years old today and said I was attracted to Christopher Robin they probably would chemically castrate me.

This should prompt some interesting "same with me!" stories. dolphin's gotta have one.

I do not travel that road with Joe.

Even Christie Mc Nichol was at least a chick.

I used to get a huge stiffy over Erin Gray, first in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and then Silver Spoons

Totally involuntary but what's a little kid to do when presented with this:
