Yikes. I saw a stat earlier this week about people who have won 3 tournaments in a row since 1997. It has happened 18 times and Tiger Woods did it 14 of them. Woods had 24 opportunities to accomplish the feat and won 14 of them which equates to a 58.3% winning percentage. Incredible. The rest of the players ontour during that time had 38 chances to complete that mark and only 4 succeeded which is a 10.5% rate.

Reminder that the Farmers starts today and ends Saturday (in prime time, I think).

Smart move by the PGA Tour and I know they have done this in years past. Nantz will be covering the golf from KC on Friday and Saturday.

Homa has quickly become one of my favorites. I love how some people were all up in arms about guys wearing hoodies. What the hell is with the joggers Ryder is wearing. That looks ridiculous to me.

He’s easy to like. Very funny. Some of his best work is when he goes on Twitter and he critiques amateurs golf swings. Getting the most out of his game right now.

Patrick Reed appears to be caught cheating again. Golf channel had some good footage of his ball being lodged in a different tree than the one he said he "identified" his ball in.

Wonder if Reed used binoculars to identify who was holding the championship trophy 8)

WGCs...GONE?
Quote:
Golfweek has learned that this will be the final year of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin. Its spot in the 2024 schedule, which is typically in late March on the back end of the Florida Swing, is expected to be filled by the Cadence Bank Houston Open. Efforts to reach Dell Match Play tournament director Jordan Uppleger were unsuccessful. A PGA Tour spokesman said, “No comment.”

Austin Country Club has been the host venue for the Match Play since 2016 when Dell became the title sponsor. At the time, the World Golf Championships were considered the highest-ranking tournaments in golf behind the four majors and the Players Championship, the Tour’s flagship event.

In 2021, the number of WGC events was reduced by two with the WGC-Mexico Open being scaled back to a regular PGA Tour event and the WGC-FedEx St. Jude being converted to the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The demise of the WGC Match Play technically leaves the WGC-HSBC Champions as the last WGC standing but the tournament, which is contested in China, hasn’t been played since 2019 due to COVID-19. There’s no indication that the tournament will be able to be staged this year either.

The PGA Tour Player Advisory Council met last Tuesday at the Farmers Insurance Open and the 2024 Tour schedule was a topic of conversation. Kevin Streelman, who is a member of the PAC, confirmed that the future of the Match Play was on the agenda.
Shame. Austin CC was a great venue for the Match play tourney.

Sounds like a big part of them going away is that they would really no longer be elevated tournaments compared to the rest of the new higher paying events. It was always a fun event in my mind and whenever I saw that on, knew it was very close to golf season. They don't mention it but the members could have been tiring of it as well as it takes them off the course for a solid week or more.

I don't think the players will necessarily miss it, it was a long week for those that advanced.

Agreed. It is a fun format but if the Ryder and Presidents Cup is all we see it in I guess that is ok. The one on one aspect of it makes some of the matchups fun.

I'll tune into the golf at Pebble on Sunday. No idea on who will be near the top until Saturday afternoon based on the fact that everyone is on three different courses. I see Nick Hardy is out of the blocks strong and I would like to see the former Illini play well this week. Good young player. Definitely would love to play this one someday but after reading how difficult it is to get on I may just scratch it off the list. Really want to get back to some bucket list courses every year and have not tapped into much west of the Mississippi.

Aaron Rodgers leading the amateur portion of the Pebble Beach this weekend. I plan on tuning in this afternoon and hope to see him maybe slip on a banana peel. He sure likes being in front of a camera and flapping his gums.

Nick Hardy still playing well. Rodgers only leading the Amateur portion by one going into last round. Not sure if they will be able to finish on tv today with yesterdays rounds wrapping up just now.

Edit - apparently Rodgers won as they don’t play in the final round.

I was able to watch some of the coverage over the weekend and found it interesting some of the changes with the coverage. The player getting mic'd up during a round was interesting to hear and watch. I think it is smart to try to get some more coverage on the players and make them more than a random guy out there with a hat on. One thing I would really like to see would be a what's in the bag for some of the players. A lot of people are really into the equipment and would be fun to see it up on screen. The tool with the computer figuring out where the ball is going to land seemed useless to me as it only told you about a second before the ball actually hit. Not sure it brings much to the broadcast.

Nice to see Rose get back into the winner's circle.

Phoenix should be fun this weekend.

WM Phoenix Open this week. First elevated tournament with full stacked field. Should be an interesting week plus all the Super Bowl hype with that being played in Phoenix. Last year got a little bananas with Theegala playing well and a lot of drunk madness from the fans. Can't wait to tune in and will likely check it out running up to the big football game Sunday.

Pretty good tournament this weekend. Was hoping maybe a few guys could make it a bit more interesting yesterday but Scheffler was not backing up. Taylor kept the heat on for most of the back nine but just couldn't catch up. Guy can really hit those irons.
