Wierder saying Poles comes from an organization that "figured out the formula for sustained success." No they didn't, dumbass. There's no formula - it's called Patrick Mahomes. That's what they "figured out."

Lol, by that logic so did Nagy...and look where it got the Bears.

Did I hear Bernsie just on with some guy Ike from Philly say that the Bears and Papa Bear were well known racists? He specifically said Papa Bear demanded a player for him looked a certain way. Like what Gayle Sayers?

How does he just throw out these under his breath things without context or depth? The guest was like I never heard about that I just know Papa Bear.

yeah, i heard the same. the loudest virtue signaler on the airwaves. a few weeks ago, he said the bears should just drop papa bear's name from everything - and that made me try and remember black QBs from the 70s, including vince evans. it seemed as though the bears were ahead of the nfl curve on black QBs, when papa bear was the owner. it all started with the bears' throw-back uniforms, which bernstein and house of L told us certain segments of the population couldn't wear those uniforms when they were the standard uniform.

maybe bernstein has him confused with p.k. wrigley? maybe not and p.k. wrigley's character and 'baseball philosophy' won't get discussed on 'you've the cubs game on the score'. i'm of the opinion that his racism cost him money and possible success and glory - at least some personal blowback for being bigoted.

They were talking about Luke Getsy coaching the American team (and Patrick Graham coaching the National team) in the Senior Bowl. A texter said the American team will face the January 6, insurrectionists. Dan added "...and the Chicago Police and Chicago Fire departments."

I don't understand the connection. Are the members of the Chicago Police and Fire departments, in Dan's mind, synonymous with the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6?

Bernstein is probably referencing this article from a few years ago:

Larry Holmes has said he feels uncomfortable with the Bears wearing throwback uniforms from periods he deems there was racism occurring in the NFL.

My guess is Bernstein's J6 comments are referring to people like this:

https://abc7chicago.com/chicago-fire-de ... /12759138/

https://abc7chicago.com/chicago-police- ... /12343343/

But, it's still an odd reference.

Thanks. Yeah, based on that his comment was a bit of a stretch.

Yeah it is sad. High noon was appointment radio during the B&B run.

Now it is the worst of what they do.

today Dan read a Pitchfork review verbatim

https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/maneskin-rush/

it's a "scathing"/take down type of review so of course Dan couldn't stop laughing throughout it

then he gets to this part
Quote:
The production sounds so cramped, digitized, and swagless that it seems to be optimized for getting busy in a Buffalo Wild Wings bathroom

Lerry - OH DAN THIS MISSED AN OPPORUNITY . It should have been GETTING BUSY IN A BURGER KING BATHROOM !!!

Bc Larry know his hip hop

It made a stupid segment awkward, as Larry kept interrupting him to make this great point, while Dan was trying to finish reading a review someone else wrote

"Haha. This porno movie is called The Sperminator? Hah. More like The Terminator."

Maneskin is absolutely terrible, though.

Yes they are. They're doing an impersonation of an early 00's garage rock band, who were doing an impersonation of an early 80's garage rock band, who were doing an impersonation of a mid 60's garage rock band.

All that being said, I still would not have been able to guess how Pitchfork would rate the album. You never know what disposable music the hipsters will claim is cool.

I heard one of their songs on Alt Nation and I was like wtf is Maneskin? I was thinking it was pronounced main-skin so it sounded even dumber. But it made me recall shit like Seven Mary Three and Shawn Mullins.

You're happy for me but I saw them live in concert. Prior to dating my current wife, my girlfriend was into all the local music scene - particularly that band with a ton of people who had the woman who played the violin. They were actually pretty good. Can't remember the name but they were pretty well known in Chicago.

Well, yeah, because I saw Seven Mary Three and I said "fuck this".

Just kidding. I don't remember if they were good or bad. Based on W_Z, they were probably bad.

Cumbersome is a great song. I didn't care for anything else they had.

did the 70's evelyn wood speed-read of the article. seems to me that the author is suggesting that halas had to be ("almost certainly") racist, because preston marshall needed another big-shooter to push the policy of exclusion. such an article would be printed during the height of the '1619 era' without scrutiny or rebuttal.

we did get some raw bernstein the other day. dan told us that as a jew, he wasn't happy that another jew, mark cuban, traded for kyrie irving. that's fine. it's real. not the fake nonsense that he sells every day.

fantastic segment just now

Dan was shocked that all 9 lines were filled up (BULLS talk )

Did the usual thing of cutting them off mid-point then mocking them

It was great.

Isn't Chicago ratings on Bulls games down like 38% this year?

I don't mind that they talk Chicago sports, but they have boycotted the Blackhawks (I don't really care about hockey), they seem close to doing so if the White Sox bring Clevinger to camp (this will be a daily topic soon and it's close to being one already) and only the Cubs/Bears seems ok to talk about.

If they are going to talk NBA, nationalize it. Does talking about a 26-29 team every day for 1-2 hours really interest anyone? I don't mind Bulls talk either, it's just the team isn't that good and mix it in with more national talk.

They do talk Super Bowl but it tends to be only becuase of their guests. I'm not opposed to more of that vs. NBA though or even college basketball here and there.

The Bears talk right now is lazy. It's just not this show, but it's lazy topics about how the Bears can learn from these or Lawrence constantly trying to change Super Bowl conversation into Justin Fields talk. Maybe, let the Super Bowl be about the Super Bowl vs. how the Bears can learn and/or trying to comprae Justin Fields to be the best QBs in the league.

Why does Lawrence Holmes refer to every athlete, etc. by their first name? Is this another example of him trying to legitimize himself as somebody who is on a first name basis with everyone? I think it's odd to refer to athletes/coaches by their first name with rare exception (like LeBron) if you don't actually know them or have an actual relationship with them unless you're trying to fool people into thinking you do.

Another observation - the show is doing a lot more replay of interviews than it did in the past. This is Holmes' influence where he would do nothing but replays for most of his solo show because he thinks the audio is so powerful/amazing that it needs to come back a day later (and is already available on podcast).

My favorite part of Leery’s solo show was it was half replays of old interviews and half recaps of those interviews that he just played for the 2nd time.

I do think he can adequately run a radio show but he has absolutely zero creativity.
