Yeah DL guy with a crazy name.

Skoronski would be fine at 9 but the DT might be a mistake at #2.. Adebawore might have had his jumping out of a pool moment with his 40 time at the combine. They’d have to be absolutely sure on that one because I haven’t seen him mocked that high by any scouts based on his tape.

Could be a ‘smartest guy in the room’ move in that round

Couple things I read had him Mid 2nd round player.

I’ve done several mocks and he’s always there in the 3rd. Those things are flawless so I wouldn’t reach with a 2nd.

Like I said, they better really study that tape and be sure he’s not an underwear Olympic champ if they’re going 2nd with him

I beg to differ  I did a PFF simulator this afternoon and he was in the top 3 best available at the Bears second round pick.

On a side note I heard the Bears actually outbid the Seahawks for Jones and he still chose them, that’s interesting to note if true.

I’m thinking they have to be the main team pursuing Brown right now as well, I don’t think anyone else can afford him atm

Bears sign Travis Homer. It looks like Monty refused the Bears offer.

They may have outbid them, but I doubt they were willing to give him $23M in his first year.

I just got him at 61. PFF gave me an A+ for the pick.

Yes. I could’ve risked it and waited til 64, but after doing nothing with the DL in FA I didn’t want to take that chance.

That said, I just tried again and got him at 64. That’s A+ value according to PFF. I reached on the kid from Pitt who (athletically) comps to Donald at 9. PFF gave me a C for that pick.

So is Herbert the starter. Certainly can't be whoever this new bum is that we signed.

Glad they didn't give Monty a second contract, I like Tucker out of Syracuse as a replacement in the 5th round.

I'm trying to figure out the Lions mindset. Williams had a better year and, if Hard Knocks is to be believed, was a team leader and important piece in getting them to believe.

Monty is a complete back but that talent is minimized by Swift being their primary pass catcher from the backfield. I guess he makes you less predictable but they are very similar as runners. Monty isn't replicating Williams' production from last year so this does not make them better while eliminating a locker room presence

I was troubled that Monty didn't take advantage of the full time role when Herbert went out.

Lots of options to replace him. First, in house, Herbert is a better runner. He's flawed but his flaws in pass protection are correctable simply with work and desire.

in free agency, I think Kareem Hunt would be an excellent pairing with Herbert, but there are plenty of others, even out of Monty's own draft class (sanders and singletary)

its a great RB draft class as well. I think a great lower round pick would be TCU Kendre Miller. He's really undervalued

I totally get not wanting to pay Montgomery and happy for him getting paid. Seemed like a good guy and a solid pro. Not thrilled about having to see him twice a season in the division.

Is he big enough? I think I’d rather see them use a later pick on the fat guy from Baylor than sign a very athletic edge guy to play 3T.

I am. I never understood the Montgomery love. The Bears had the best running offense in the NFL, and Montgomery was still a 3 ypc guy.

Yes.

They won't even be looking at a guy like Siaka. They don't play an 700 pounds of ass at tackle defense anymore. They got rid of that big islander last year, who had a productive rookie season and played well for whatever team picked him up.

Williams was a good short yardage back who was brought in to spare swift from taking damage in between the tackles. He scored TDs largely because the offense as a whole moved the ball a lot. I think he's fairly average

ok, use that money you saved on Monty to go get Orlando Brown Jr to play RT. If you got Braxton Jones on the cheap, who cares if you are paying Brown LT money to play RT? Your overall investment at the tackle position is still reasonable.

He had over 1K yards last year. The same amount of 1K season as Monty. They have a nearly identical career YPC (Williams actually slightly better). I agree that he is fairly average but they are nearly identical runners. Monty's value is in his well rounded game he isn't good enough to take catches from Swift so that value added is lost. Monty went from a 3 down back to a 2 down back with this move. It was probably his best offer and probably well above the Bears offer.
