He’s getting the reverse Zach Wilson treatment. Ignore the on field play in favor of a pro day workout.

I’m all for passing on character guys at 1/1. If you have a shot at the best player on a historic defense (arguably in both championship seasons), I don’t care if he gained 10 pounds if he’s there at 9.

Would love to have data on all these college guys with legit character/work ethic concerns (not smoking weed or partying, but serious things like lack of effort on/off the court/field) and how often did the worst case scenario become true.

He didn't make plays in college. He overpowered guys who will be selling insurance after college. He could only do that for a couple of plays before he was out of breath. He was out of breath during his pro day. He's not going to overpower NFL players the same way, and he'll need to stay on the field and make plays.

His character flaws are another story. I could never trust anyone who abandoned their dying friend. That has zero to do with maturity.

I think he can become a monster player for at least a couple of years.

I saw a story where he paid for all meals for a walk-on (anonymously) when he learned they don’t have the same food as the scholarship players. If that’s not 9th overall character I don’t know what is.

Hitler helped an old lady carry her groceries as a young man. Then gave her one of his paintings.

I wouldn't care that he left his friend to die if he was Aaron Donald. Keep in mind, I didn't want him before I found out he wasn't a person who could be counted on.

Oh, I’m aware. It’s why you’re dismissing SEC competition as future insurance salesmen.

Orlando Brown Jr to the Bengals at 4 years 60 mill 31 guaranteed.. I feel like the Bears could have pulled that easily especially if they were willing to offer Jones 20 million a year at DT..

He didn’t have much production in college, that’s one of the biggest knocks on him before all this nonsense.

I can't believe someone didn't give him $20M a year. Something seems off about this.

I think more details are to come.. what’s weird to me is that the Bears were definitely in on him, so it’s not like they knew something about him and decided to pass. I think Poles may have overplayed his hand by thinking no one else had the room to sign him and the Bengals swooped in.

We’ll see what comes to light about it, but Poles has taken some ‘L’s’ on the surface in free agency so far. Both his biggest targets wind up somewhere else when you have more money to spend than anyone else.

I’ve seen critiques of sack totals. I haven’t seen anything that suggests he wasn’t productive. He’s pressuring the QB several times per game and absorbing double/triple teams while clogging up the middle in the run.

He’s a freak. I’d buy concerns around character & fitness, but not his actual play.

He really screwed himself not taking KC’s original offer.

Did the Broncos believe Mike McGlinchey was better? This seems like an L for Poles, but also an L for every other team looking for an offensive lineman. Besides, Poles knew him. Hopefully, someone will ask him about it tomorrow.

My impression is they’re doing that thing the Sox & Cubs do, where they refuse to pay market rate for free agents because they don’t like the market.

What was the use of all the years of talk about cap space.

Next year...yeah, that's the year we're really going to go for it!

There has been so much "omg, Ryan Poles is crushing the off season!!!" but I don't really see it. The best moves of his GM career were Pace drafting Fields and Lovie winning the last game of the season.

I don't, either. Maybe they had no interest in any of those guys. Maybe the McCaskey's don't have the capital to pay the signing bonuses. Maybe he just wants to build through the draft when it comes to his linemen. I know that he has a plan, and he's a very disciplined guy.

The Mike McGlinchey deal isn't terrible. It's a 2 or 3 year deal that is very cap friendly.

I don't think it is a matter of not wanting to have someone of Orlando Brown's caliber. I think it is not wanting to tie up all that bonus/cap money. I think they are quiet mostly until after the draft then go to the flea market.

He got the McCaskey's to agree to tear everything down. His vision put the Bears in the position to have the cap space and draft pick. He also had a solid draft.

The Bears aren't done shopping, and cap money rolls over. I'm not going to torch the guy because he only signed one player I wanted. I'll wait to see the complete picture and how the guys he invested money on perform.

Wrong idea if so. Why create cap space if you're not going to use it. You had to gobble up 2/3 of the top OL FAs and they're 0/3. Not good.
