His first free agency accomplished nothing. His second has gone better, though he’s ignored his lines.

I agree he’s proven effective at fielding a terrible roster but he’s not shown he can turn that around yet. I don’t find it unfair to point that out.

He obviously hasn't turned it around yet. The Bears are in a better position to have future success than they were when he took the job a year ago. I would even argue they have more talent than they had when he took the job. The transformation happened quicker than it usually happens.

I think he also got the coach right.

Poles did attempt to go after McGlinchy and Dremont Jones.. they chose to play elsewhere. As for Brown.. that story has been all over the place so it’s hard to know if the Bears were in on him or not.

The internet scouts must have seen that most teams felt Brown was a RT meaning the actual people that do it for a living felt he did not have the feet/athletic ability to play LT, but it really all comes down to Poles thinking he already has a LT who is on a rookie deal that is competent and that he can find a RT who fit the scheme and is capable via the draft who will also be on a rookie deal.

It is more likely that Poles knows Orlando Brown very well and did not think he would be very interested in coming into camp in shape and ready to play.

One of the best teams in the NFL who has ‘guys that do it for a living’ decided to sign him to play that position. KC tagged him and tried to work things out with him but couldn’t come to an agreement (so it’s not like they decided he was no good)..

Also.. where are you getting all this ‘RT’ stuff from? The same place most of us are getting our information too. There’s no way to know if that shit is even true, just like most of those sources saying the Bears were in on him are now saying they weren’t..

Tis the season for spreading lies and holiday rumors..

It sounds like someone backed out of a better deal for the #1 pick, so Poles took the best remaining offer. Maybe the Colts learned who their competition wanted.

Kinda silly reading your replies, there were tons of stuff out there about the NFL thinking he was more of a right tackle, but you must just listen to WSCR with the rest of the football simpletons, so let's just saddle up and move along.

High grades against the run, an up and down career, see him as a rotational guy who plays on early downs.

They need guys that are solid against the run at all four defensive line spots, still tons of work to be done on both sides of the line.

He's going to play Ted Washington for our new Urlacher.

Furious said he's a decent run stuffer, but don't expect him to rush the passer.

Still a ton of work to do on the defensive line, right now even Caller Bob would take his chances hitting the A gap and getting a few yards against the current collection of DT's.

I hope the Tonyan signing doesn't stop them from drafting a TE. There are a lot of solid options. I would love to get Laporta, Washington, or Kincaid. I'm not sure where they project in the draft.

Nah you just don’t like getting called on your bullshit. You stop in here to criticize people for taking information from elsewhere, then coming back in here to post and talk about it, saying the sources are garbage and no one knows football.. then you come right back with shit like ‘there were tons of stuff out there about the NFL thinking he was more of a right tackle’ which offers up nothing more than a shitty take you grabbed from wherever. And you are even dumb enough to put this shit all in the same post.. that’s fucking simple.

You’re not an NFL scout or insider more than anyone else here.

As far as Brown is concerned KC ran him as an LT, Cinci evaluated him and looks to be signing him as an LT. Those are facts, not takes. You can fling all the shit around in here you want about ‘the NFL says..’ but your sources are no different than anyone else’s in here.

I think they will..it is only a 1 year deal for 3 mill.. I like that Poles don't value the position.

They’re going O-line or D-line for sure most likely with their 1st two picks. Their lost targets (Jones and McGlinchy) will see to that.. we’re gonna have to rule Bijan out unfortunately for now lol

Those are all 2nd round guys (possibly early for Kincaid). They’d have to sacrifice linemen (again) to chase those types of players.

No one signed today prevents drafting a position. It just allow me them not to. I like mc claim from uab or Kendra miller from tcu

I was looking at back half of the draft guys for te. That guy kuntz from old dominion is interesting at 6’7” and lots of room to put on good weight

Foreman was a good sign. He can carry the lead role if needed and definitely can handle 1/3 of the Carrie’s

Agreed, I really wanted them to sign Schultz but didn't think they would make that kind of investment. Kmet has been disappointing. I saw a lot of Tonyan last year watching a decent amount of Packer games and he's alright with me, similar to Kmet skill wise. Schultz is top 5 elite TE material.

didn't realize tonyan caught 53 passes last year and a highly efficient 79% catch percentage. He's much more of a big WR than Kmet, who is 23 pounds heavier and an inch taller. You can do some interesting things with him lining up wide.

The Bears skills positions are actually pretty solid right now.

any info on Foreman's blocking? He gives you zero as a pass catcher. Has nice career averages as a runner and appears to get better with more carries.

Herbert takes on Monty's role. Foreman takes on Herbert's role. Plenty of carries for both. Homer is third down. He considers himself a great blocker.

We'll see how the draft falls. It sure seems like Poles has set himself up for nothing but linemen, and I'm perfectly fine with that

This is a Getsy signing. It also gives a rookie TE space to develop. Most need a year to adjust to the NFL game.

I forgot about Getsy and the Packers. I was really hoping for Foster Moreau, who I think is a better two way TE and undervalued. I don't see the Raiders jumping to re sign him even after trading waller

M&H were insufficiently deferential to Ryan Poles this morning, who callers compared to Theo Epstein.

I’m very surprised more people don’t seem to care about the lack of progress on the lines. The defensive line was maybe the worst any Bears’ fan has ever seen. The offensive line was routinely blamed for Fields’ problems.

Give him the draft, sure, but he’s basically locked into drafting all linemen at this point with the early picks. My concern is he’s so proud of the Jones pick that he’ll go back into FCS to find more starters in the late rounds.

I don't expect Poles to draft all linemen. In fact, I would be surprised if more than 2 of his first 4 picks were on linemen.
