had memphis taking purdue out, I'd fire Painter today.. his big 7 foot 4 center took zero shots the last nine and a half minutes.. inexcusable.

He took a team that wasn't ranked in the preseason starting two true freshman to #1 and a 1 seed. They were way ahead of schedule with how inexperienced they were.

That doesn't make the loss any easier to take but they can and will bounce back.

The problem with moving on from Painter is there's no guarantee the next coach can lead you to the next level.

Look at Texas for example. Rick Barnes was there for 17 seasons, 16 tourney appearances but in last 8 years didn't make it out of 1st weekend at all.

Moved on to Shaka Smart for6 years who didn't get past 1st rd once!

Then to bears who last year got eliminated 2nd rd (now under a interim this year who could lead em further)
