Looking ahead, IDOT will shut down the reversible lanes in 2024 to rehab the bridge decks and the Reversible Lane Access Control system. Work will continue on Hubbard's Cave.

Great resource for those of us that travel

http://www.travelmidweststats.com/Repor ... nterchange

so this morning it took over an hour to go the 10 miles or so from O'hare to downtown...that's WITH the reversables...now take away 2 of those 5 lanes

Good Lord

I normally will take the reversibles because their bridge decks are far smoother than those in the regular lanes.

Well, enjoy them while you can.

And while I'm ranting, who the fuck is in charge of flipping them or shutting them (reversibles) down completely, both of which seem to randomly happen...and for someone like me that's trying to get into the city it can add 20-40 minutes onto a commute....and my GPS can't anticipate what will happen

These things are never as bad as we believe they'll be.

"There is never a good time to do a two-lanes closure on the inbound Kennedy, but the road needs the repairs. We are going to get out there and knock 'em out," Schumacher said.

IDOT said it urges motorist to consider public transportation options, like altering work schedules and even working from home to minimize time spent in construction traffic. The project is expected to start on March 20.

I love this resource

look at the travel times today before they start shutting it down...hour 20 to go from O'hare to the interchange...this is not just today

The red is the average, the yellow represents an 80% range over the last 3 months and the green is real time from today

Seems like the concrete should have lasted longer from the major reconstruction 20 years ago. The Edens concrete from the 70s lasted much longer.

I was commuting to UIC via the Ike when they did the big Kennedy Construction in the 90's. And yes it was God awful as about 25% of the traffic diverted to the Ike during that time.

I went to IU this past weekend. How is that I-65 and the rings roads around Indy are always under construction and yet that road is such poor shape?

Sometimes they just shut the whole thing down. I've never seen that with any other Interstate.

It's Indiana. Last fall was the first time in 20 years that I don't recall there not being construction on 80/94.

Yep! I tried to hit the road to Georgia at night a couple of years ago, and I went about 5 miles in an hour. It was 1 am. I almost lost it.

Indiana? Georgia? These are some of the places flowing with milk and honey all the "can't wait to leave" people tell me about. Next you are going to say that northwest arkansas doesn't actually exist

After graduating in Atlanta and going back home I swore never to make that drive again. Atlanta, Nashville and I-65 north of indy drove me nuts for years.

the last time i was on 65 was going to Louisville a few years ago....there'd be like 10 miles of construction, then you'd see the end of it and start celebrating. Then 1 mile later more construction would start.

And all these years there is still a sign that says road noise next six miles. You would think they would fix that stretch.

read that the last major rehab was in 1994. info on what they are doing here https://idot.illinois.gov/projects/Interstate-90-Kennedy-Bridge-Study. comparing bridge pavement to a regular pavement is apples to oranges

The Northwest Line is adding more trains, which may not necessarily got delayed for three hours when people use them to kill themselves.

How many times does the average motorist say "man, fuck this" on 55 from Chicago to St. Louis? 12?

Living a block from the NW line between the two Arlington stations, when trains start blasting their horns at all hours I know that means someone has offed themselves. :(

There was a run in early December where someone got got around the Ridge Ave. intersection and then like two days later a car got sent into the air at Arl.Hts. Rd. The driver actually got out and ran away, the conductor told me.

At least he wasn't dead.

From the way the story was told, the conductor wished she were.

It's a pretty easy drive though for the most part in my experience. Nashville was a cluster fuck the few times Ive driven through in last 10 years and I imagine it is getting worse.

My son would verify that. Traffic is his biggest complaint as the food and sports are getting it done down there. Crappy music aside, the oddest thing to him is that the animals still haven't adapted per se and are trying to stick around.

Crappy music?

I know Country is prevalent down there, but on weekends you can find almost any kind of live music you want walking up and down Broadway street.

His thing is that most of the bands are either guys who should've given it up years earlier or are putting out watered down pablum that sells in the corporate setting down there.

Or both.
