Is there any money in a locally owned single station anymore?

From the conference calls a big problem is the decline in local car dealership advertising. It seems like the station is gorging on sports book gambling advertising. I doubt a single station would garner much of the gambling ad revenue. But I don’t know…

A single sports station in a major market would do well on gambling.

If they have $2B in debt, then bankruptcy is just a matter of time.

Gambling ad revenue won't go away but that isn't necessarily a silver lining. Gambling programming might be a huge problem. Caesar's foisting Trey Wingo upon us is only the beginning.

I think he's a doctor, so he wasn't hurting.

If you do an architectural walking tour of the garden district in NOLA, they'll usually take you by the Manning parent house. Nice place but certainly not ostentatious. I'm not sure how much Archie made.

For every failed radio personality, there's an excuse. Fred is a FUCKING LOSER. Until he admits to that, I can't help him.

Watch new episodes of Bar Rescue on Paramount, every Sunday night at 8.

I think I found his plan on the Depart of Labor website. The CBS plan is now part of Paramount. It is called the CBS Radio Inc Pension Plan. But that plan only has 29 people in it. There is another plan that has tens of thousands called the CBS combined plan, also run by Paramount/Viacom.

He should be getting annual plan info from the administrators.

Edit: I sent him a Linked In request so I can message to help him.

That's what threw me for a loop. Isn't he registered on their site to monitor his money? This is something you get on top of a year before you start tapping it. Understand everything thoroughly and if need be find answers way way in advance. Then Fred lost his wife and himself very sick so maybe he just put it off.

You do not really monitor a defined benefit pension. Your retirement benefit is just based on years of service and final pay levels (one to five last years). They should be sending plan information at least annually.

Ugh, I wish. Then maybe I wouldn't be so tired during the day.

Deals that take as much sleight of hand to pull off as Entercom buying CBS Radio, with massive lending, "Reverse Morris Trusts," and all sorts of swaps and divestitures to stay onside of FCC ownership caps, shouldn't go through. And when a company that does cheap mid-market radio was able to finagle their way into buying a company that did expensive major-market radio anyway, yeah, of course they had to slash expenses down to nothing. This was always what was going to happen.

Always wondered how the update guys like Fred and George did, North and a few other hosts were able to cash in and make some good paydays, but the reporters/update people likely did not a ton, and Fred was not born into money like Bernstein or Parkins.

Can see one of the gambling companies buying the station, but they likely make massive changes because they would not want on air staff insulting and belittling half of their potential customers every ten minutes. They also would have little interest in chasing the "smart fans" group because that is an almost statistically irrelevant portion of the potential audience.

You would think they would want local hosts drumming up interest in local teams/players to encourage people to pound the Fields over passing yards numbers and not wasting hour after hour after hour droning on and on about Tony La Russa.

Nothing was predestined for North, Murph, & Fred. They made their own connections, and couldn't intern for free.

Jurko with a dig at the Score during Tom Thayer's first visit. Referring I'm sure to mandated Fields love, sjw clone hosts, and impending corporate bankruptcy, "You're with a legitimate sports station now".

https://radioink.com/2023/03/30/audacys ... -now-what/

Quote:
The same week Audacy considers a reverse stock split, they face more bad news: the company’s auction for the domain name “Radio.com” through GoDaddy expired without a bid. Radio Ink‘s sister publication Radio + Television Business Report first broke news of the auction in December.

Audacy was asking for a minimum bid of $2.5 million, but even after more than one thousand views, no bid was made before the end date of March 28 at 9a ET. The auction has now been extended to June 26 at noon ET. The minimum price remains the same.

Thayer and Joniak both sound much more relaxed on WMVP, you also get more a much broader range of opinions, there is really no reason to go to WSCR for Bears content, really no comparison in the level of football expertise between the hosts on the two stations at this point.

The value of Audacy's stations is still more than their debt is.

Maybe, it's still paper value on a dying medium.

I imagine we'll hear about radio dying right up to the point hipsters think its cool again, like vinyl records.
