Dane Brugler on Wright:

Quote:
STRENGTHS: A large-framed blocker with a thick torso and functional mass … raw power courses through his body … competes with a patient, yet physical mindset
and unleashes controlled violence when he sees the opportunity … strikes with a stiff, full-extension punch to knock rushers off balance … able to knock down the
reach of rushers and flashes the grip strength to snatch … has enough quickness to shut down the corner … rarely bullied … reworks his balance for quick recoveries
after a misstep … keeps his feet and hips on the same page in the run game … his heavy hands allow him to displace defenders … made an impressive jump in
performance between his junior and senior seasons, decreasing his penalties from 10 in 2021 to only two in 2022 (one false start, one holding) … has starting
experience inside at guard and at both left and right tackle … finished his college career with 34 straight starts.

WEAKNESSES: Top heavy and resorts to waist bending at times … finds his weight too far out in front when he overextends, inviting defenders to toss him … his
outside foot drifts, leaving him late to react versus inside moves … his hand positioning lacks discipline and he needs to stay more compact to answer different kinds
of rush moves … improved movement skills and knee bend, but lacks consistent twitch in his redirect … has trouble coming to balance on the second level … relies
more on brute strength as a run blocker than leverage points.

SUMMARY: A four-year starter at Tennessee, Wright lined up at right tackle in head coach Josh Heupel’s up-tempo, spread offense. After moving to the offensive line
as a sophomore in high school, he fell short of expectations his first three years in Knoxville. But everything clicked, especially in pass pro, when he moved to right
tackle as a senior (didn’t allow a sack in 2022 and quieted Will Anderson on the Alabama tape). With his extraordinary power and torque, Wright creates a surge in
the run game with the physical hands to latch, drive and displace. While he is susceptible to inside rush moves, he reaches his landmarks and stays square as a pass
blocker, relying on his length, punch and stout anchor to stalemate rushers. Overall, Wright will get himself into trouble when he sacrifices technique for his nasty
demeanor, but he naturally defaults to his raw power and body control to consistently win in both the run and passing game. He is a plug-and-play right tackle,
and some teams have him on their draft board as a starting guard.
GRADE: 1st-2nd Round (No. 24 overall)

They need help upfront. Surprised they didn’t go Skoronski but must not have liked him for some reason. Wright has the size and speed but he looks a little doughy to me, and that’s coming from a fat guy  Hope they pick up another lineman later on.

He is a guard, that is why.

Is he a “blue” player? Don’t think so.

This is setting up to be the draft where the Bears passed on Bryce Young and then passed on Jalen Carter.

He probably doesn't have the versatility to be a LT

The OL has an entirely different character with Wright and Jenkens (I don't know Nate Davis). Tough guys who are much nastier. Many laughed about Jenkins taking the personal foul to protect Fields, but the other four pussies were more than happy to just take a beating. That shit is over.

Yep! We have some character on our offensive line now. It's significantly better than it was was Poles arrived. We need a center, but I won't be upset if that guy isn't drafted until next year.

Functional mass. Nice, the same cannot be said for the CFMB fatsos who are so quick to criticize.

You know I like this center group and I would be disappointed if we didn't grab one. The obvious is Juice Scruggs, who they met with. I like other guys better but they seem to have him in their sights. I don't think he is a sure fire, Day 1 starter like other guys.

Just stay in the Big Ten with Schmitz, Tippman, Wypler, Oluwatimi and Scruggs.

Watched the fist half of the Will Anderson video and, while nice, Hooker gets the ball out so fast it doesn't even matter most of the time. Fields is a bit...slower.

Wanny had him ranked as his 2nd tackle on the board and was higher than Paris Johnson. So that makes me feel a little better.

You know Carter and Bryce Young are going to be HOFers now.

Wanny was an absolutely shitty talent evaluator with the Bears and Jimmy Johnson called the shots in Dallas

I don't think Schmitz has the dog in him that Tippmann does. In my eyes, the gap between them is significant. I would go with Wypler after Tippmann. I think Tippmann is strong as a bull and has the nastiness that Poles is looking for. That said, there are so many potentially great defensive linemen who may be on the board that I wouldn't be upset if Poles did not draft him.

I think they feel the same way, which is why they were so interested in Scruggs, who will be there on Day 3.

Wypler is the guy I want, but I want today to be spent other places.

I'm late, but I'm watching Poles' press conference from last night. He called Wright the best tackle in the draft.

Completely agree on the character of the OLine.

The amount of times Jenkins has been hurt is definitely worrisome.

The spread at Wright's house last night must have been epic. The video looked like the Klumps.

“Nastiness” might be the most over-rated trait to look for in an o-lineman. Give me a technically sound guy with quick feet, good hand usage and great balance who works hard at his craft and you can have the nastiest guy.

You can teach most of those things. You can't teach nastiness. That sets a tone for any unit. Wright was winning against guys like Will Anderson, even when he wasn't technically sound.
