He is primarily picking SEC guys which is fine, surprised the experts here are not recognizing that he going heavy at DT to keep offensive linemen off his LB's. Taking a CB was not a surprise, not sure if Jaylon Johnson or the Bears are interested in a long term deal.

They also obviously like taller DT's which seems to be the new wrinkle in the Cover-2 three technique positional profile under Eberflus. The run on edge guys early in the second round took most of the guys who could start day one off the board.

Will be interesting to see where they go with the first pick in round 4, will they triple down on dline and go with the Northwestern kid who is at the top of the best player available lists, or reach a bit for a Center?

So far they have a starter at RT, have upgraded the size and talent at DT, and have added depth at CB, you can still maybe find a starting center, but looking at depth or developmental guys with the remaining picks.

Here’s the thing.. it’s not the position that Poles drafted that’s an issue here -it’s what they passed on combined with their claimed process in decision making. They passed on arguably the best Center in the draft (Schmitz) -twice- to draft guys who were noted for needing coaching and never meeting their potential in college after they passed on arguably the biggest talent in this draft (Carter) for the same reasons.

You have to at least acknowledge there’s some inconsistency there at the very least. Not to mention they had a real chance to draft a top Center that fits their blocking scheme perfectly and could have shored up this line potentially in one off season.. and you passed to draft project guys based off of ‘traits’

That’s the kind of thing Phil Emery did, and we know what that looked like.

Looking like their goal for next season is to set the defensive record for fewest sacks.

Only saw a little bit of film on the Cinci receivers (there were two of them).. but I know that they’re burner types.

Solid pick, speed kills and I know those kids are fast. Decent production too if I’m not mistaken.

I agree. Solid pick this late. He’s better than Claypool the minute he steps on the field.

Really like the Cincy WR pick.

Round 5 needs to be an edge guy and an interior OL

Luke Wypler is still available at Center.. id be happy if the Bears kicked the tires on him.. I’d feel alot better about this draft if the Bears got a solid center out of day 3..

Yeah that would be a solid pick. What happened to him? I can remember seeing some mocks of him going in the 2nd round

Not a bad pick (Sewell) but.. would much rather have Wypler (who at this point is a tremendous value)

This is frustrating.

There were even some who thought he’d wind up being the best interior linemen in this draft when it’s all said and done.

Bears heavily scouted him too

I think the Bears are high on that Center they drafted from Illinois last year. Can be the only explanation

The corner they took in round 5 might be better than the one they took in round 2

Andre Carter and Zach Kuntz on the board. Two positions of need in edge and TE. Yet bears take another project DT.

I appreciate taking OL with the first pick. But no other OL taken?

I do not get this at all.

According to Tall Midget Poles is trying to take the Anthony Richardson of whatever position when the Bears are on the clock. That he hasn't taken on OL since round 1 likely means no OL was able to satisfy Pole's stringent potential metrics, like whether a player can jump out of a pool, do a backflip over a raging fire, or perform Iverson-esque crossovers while using a pile of bricks for a ball.

Do we have any historical data on RAS?

Robert Quinn for Tyler Scott is a steal.

Guess they are happy with Whitehair or Patrick at C. No idea why they took another DT in the 7th round.

Might be the Mooney replacement when his contract comes up.

I am good with Wright and the WR pick.

But other than that a pretty big bag of Meh.

Wasnt the word that this draft was deep in TE and Edge guys. Both needs for the Bears and you do not draft either?

OL clearly a need and you only draft one.

I want to support Poles, but lots to question

I like the RB from Texas. Definitely needed an Edge, TE, C, and at least one LB.

I can only assume they expect guys like Robinson to take a huge step and will sign someone like Yannick Ngakoue as a bridge. Like you, I wasn't excited about any selection outside of Wright and Scott.

Pre-injured, bad Big Ten program, grew up in an oasis town.
