Apparently the contractors forgot to put rebar in the concrete at Nissan Stadium, and now the entire thing is falling apart 23 years in. The state of Tennessee is thus giving the Titans nearly a billion and a quarter in taxpayer dollars to build a new fixed-roof dome that will maybe host a Super Bowl and Final Four.

Does this affect how much welfare the Bears will ask for to have their Bears Containment Zone? I mean, if the lowly Titans get that much, the Bears are entitled to more.

Tax exempt muni bonds paid off through tourism taxes make perfect sense for places like Vegas and quickly becoming Vegas East (for the tourism, sans the gambling) Nashville.

The bridesmaid industrial complex keeps the bars along Broadway full and the adjacent AirBnB capacity booked from April through about September/October. Bookings fall off a cliff in October/November through the winter in Nashville. A shiny new enclosed stadium should attract out of town NFL and even college football fans (SEC championship game? Music City Bowl should get an upgrade in teams and time-slot) to Nashville during the off-season for bridesmaid tourism. Throw in some big name concert weekends and maybe a February music fest and then a March madness weekend or even Final Four and that connects back around to the drunk chicks from Iowa and Ohio in newly bought cowboy boot season.

Nashville is full of itself right now. It recognizes its status as an up and coming city, is confident that it can bear the costs of a new stadium, and desperate to maintain its status as an NFL city. I don't think any of those things apply to Arlington Heights.

I'm thinking zero. Maybe a couple lunches. Can't just jack it up 6 times. It's a boarded up property at the moment. Did the Bears pay some exorbitant amount for it?

Damn. Really? I took Dr. Ken Jr. I to a Seahawks game there a few years ago.

I didn't think it was a great stadium but I'm glad it didn't collapse.

They will hire dolphin's law firm to take care of it.

Not a problem. No bribe needed.

They will win an appeal. People win appeals on their own, without lawyers

They should tell Chicago to shove their taxes and move the stadium to Burnham where maybe they can find some relics from the Capone mob that had homes adjoining Burnham Woods golf course. I used to walk that course looking for golf balls and sell the balls I found to the golfers as a kid wondering if I would stumble across a body disposed of so to speak:). I did find some wooden shafted golf clubs but no heads or bodies amid the reeds adjoining the course.

It sounds like the Bears never applied for vacancy status on the property and it’s being assessed at the market rate.

If only they had some brilliant attorney/team president well versed in stadium development who could’ve prepared for this issue.

A fuckup, for sure, but it's still government at it's finest. Assessor think the Bears are running horse races? How 'bout a phone call? Yeah, I know, it's not govt's job to work with people. It's their job to file paperwork and then shrug their shoulders.

They used the tools at their disposal to hurt people who deserved it.

How does vacancy status work? If the land was rezoned for residential, it would certainly generate more tax than the $3m previously being assessed (though probably not $18m, which is like $55k per acre).

Fuck the McCaskeys.

Also, last I checked, we're in a housing crisis, not a "place for the Bears to play" crisis.

Deserved it? Why aren't you happy they are leaving? They are even buying their own land for it.

Arlington Heights has a housing crisis?

Chicago Bears hear plan to build stadium in Naperville. Arlington Heights ‘no longer our singular focus,’ team says.

Chicago Bears officials met with Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli Friday morning to discuss the possibility of abandoning their plans for a new stadium development in Arlington Heights in favor of building it in Naperville. Plans to build “the largest single development project in Illinois history” are “at risk” in Arlington Heights, the Bears said in a statement they released Friday

Are you kidding? His move would be to tax the players 20% of each game check they receive for playing at Soldier Field.
