i gotta say my early gut feeling is the cards and astros are gonna be very good next year.

theres a whole off season to go but if you look at those rosters theyre pretty close.
If one of them gets Peavy ill expect 90 + wins out of that team
not to mention k wood could wind up on the cards

cardinals still have the la duncan combo and the astros have a lot of young talent

the cub should be right there but as a former cub manager might say it could be " a tough fuckn national league central"

Something tells me Kerry Wood will always be a Cub.

What a great thread!

Cubs could finish 3rd! Or, they could do well and finish 1st again. Or, they could tank and finish last. Or tank not quite as badly and finish 4th. Or maybe barely miss and finish 2nd.

I think the Cubs will finsih somewhere between 1st and 5th in the NL Central.

first off, I'm not sure why the Cards will be better next year. The Cubs would do well to be rid of Wood, those arm troubles have not disappeared for good. Astros might get Jake, they might not. If the Cubs go out and get the missing link they should have had this year, Brian Roberts, then all bets are off.

I agree. I think the Cubs will finish first, third or fifth. I think the Cardinals will be second or sixth, with an outside shot at fourth. Astros look like a good first, second, or fifth place team. Pirates, as we all know, will be in sixth, unless they can finish in fourth or fifth. And the Reds are always good for a surprise... they'll either be third or sixth. The Brewers though look to be a team on the upswing... I'd say first, second, or maybe they collapse to fifth.

i like brian roberts. i think he would be good for the cub. but ive never seen a "pretty good" player get so built up for so long.

i mean the missing link was juan pierre one time , so they traded the whole west tenn starting rotation for him.

i dont think roberts is the final piece. hes good but they need more

Not anymore. Sheets and Sabbathia won't be back until I hear shocking news otherwise. the Brew had their shot.

fair enough

but why is it ridiculous? i think a lotta people expect the cub to just win again next year.

what about early prediction on the comiskullar kids?

i know its way early but i think its interesting to look at teams like cleveland and houston that seemed to be playing better than their division winners at the end of the season

Gimme a break, the NL will blow again next year and the Cubs will dominate and win 95+ games.

yeah people kept saying that all year but i think they have some solid young pitching (parra, gallardo)and i know they have young position players on the rise

this was maybe their best shot but i dont think they ll fade away again

Dude with those pitchers they were still a fading team in the second half. Now they're gonna lose that 10 games CC brought, and whatever Sheets would have left in the tank at the end of the year. They need a HUGE move with starting pitching, and oh yeah their bullpen sucks the root too.

yeah i guess so but with
fielder
braun
hart
hall
and this 3b kid gamel

i dont see them losing a ton of games and their owner seems to kinda wanna win. theyre gonna make an offer to CC i think theyre a few moves from being good again

Ummmm...there is an entire off season and a lot of roster changes (free agents, trades) to be made before next year even starts. To say now that the Cubs could finish third, first, second, fifth...whatever is just a silly sort of statement. It's obvious.

As a long time Cubs fan, it would not surprise me if the Cubs found a way to finish 6th in a 5 team division.

The Brewers will have at least $25 mil come off the books between Gagne, Sheets and Mota and possibly $32 if they don't pickup the option for Cameron. If they can't sign a top starter like CC or Lowe they will sign a couple 2nd tier guys then go after Fuentes. They also have a couple rookies coming in (Escobar, Gamels) so guys like Hardy. Hall and possibly Prince can be moved. AND they are going to get a new manager ( Brenly??). Doug Melvin is a very good GM and he has a lot of different ways he can go. I expect the Brewers to be very good next season.

Its ridiculous because the WS hasn't even started yet. We have no idea what the final makeup of teams are going to be.

If you want my prediction right now on the Sox, I'll play along. However, I can't say that my feelings won't change because Kenny will make moves in the coming months. Right now, provided they can stay healthy down the stretch, I'd say they are a 90 win team and should contend for the division title again. But that opinion will change before, during, and after spring training.

obviously things will change but its interesting to project sometimes.

al central and nl central are kinda similiar

twins and cards= pretty much gonna be decent every year wont win less than 83 always capable of 90+

astros and indians= usually good, sometimes great, and capable of two month long streaks

kc and pitt= the little engine that couldnt

tigers reds and brewers ya never know

The problem with this thread, is it is based on NOTHING!!! None of the teams have made any off season moves, except for the Cardinals, who declined their option on Mark Mulder. Until the teams make their free agent signings and trades, there is no reasonable way of predicting next years standings.
