public service: Don't put anything valuable in the mail if it's going through Chicago.

Had a client try to send me a USB stick. Got the letter last week and there is a tiny hole in the side where someone reached in and stole the USB stick.

Then he tried to have his former lawyer send it to me from his downtown office, got it this week and once again the USB stick was removed via a tiny hole in the side of the envelope.

my question to thieves: Why not just take the whole letter and throw it away?

You know you can send those items on the USB drive over the internet, right?

2 things I learned quickly when I first moved to Chicago around the turn of the century: Chicago mail fucking sucks. Anything valuable you have at best a 50/50 chance it'll make it to you or to your destination. Oh, and Chicago PD are bad-asses who will shoot a guy in the back and then claim he was trying to shoot them over his shoulder like some trick shot artist. The latter isn't so true these days, seems the Chicago PD's been neutered (mostly a good thing). But apparently Chicago postal workers still thieving.

It's a joke I've done a few hundred times so you'll see it eventually.
