It’s an offshoot of their tax complaint and it’s incredibly stupid.

The argument boils down to: by having to pay several million extra in property taxes (that we’ll have to pay anyway), our multi-billion dollar project is no longer viable so we’re going to abandon it entirely.

While that likely seems true, why is Naperville playing along with it? It’s like sending Benny the Bull to sign a free agent.

I was just thinking about bigfan and all his dumb posts about how great MCDOME would be but JERRY was blocking it, and it occurred to me, yeah, if Reinsdorf could keep a dome from going up at McCormick Place, why not Arlington Heights, too?

I'd love to see their valuation with their extremely limited revenue streams.

Forbes has them at $4.25B, but that doesn't really matter because there's no real way to buy the team and there's no shareholder value to increase. They just exist.

Per Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are day-to-day with congenital incompetence.

I really think that they are stalling for mama bear to pass away and to sell the team. I do not think they have enough money to build the stadium unless they sell a minority stake.

I think that Cincinnati is in exactly the same boat. It's really a stupid NFL rule.

They can't get financing for the stadium with the current crew? How is Mama Bear?

I've been saying this the entire time...the McCaskeys have very little cash. Either they've already bought in cash-rich owner (quietly) to get this done or they had hoped Mama Bear would have died by now and they'd sell.

I would imagine this is just the Bears being the Bears. Eventually...someone will buy into the team and this gets done. It will take someone who's not related to the McCaskeys.

You don't need cash to get these stadiums done. You need a belief that it will pay for itself and make everyone money.

The Vikings stadium will be paid off 23 years early. Hopefully, Brother Warren can get with Brother Pritzker and the mayor to get the Bears a similar deal for Chicago.

vikings, and all the new stadiums just built before/during the pandemic are a bargain now. rampant inflation only happens every couple decades. that said, we very well might not be done with the current crisis, so might as well buy in now. prices certainly wont be going down.

Is there any truth that Virginia's estate taxes could somehow be circumvented by selling the team? I thought I read somewhere that selling the team would be financially sound for the McCaskeys once she passes.

Unless they got a waiver from the NFL, I think the failchildren would have to sell the team because no single failchild would have a large enough share to be the owner of record.

I think that another legacy team dealt with that. Maybe the Giants or the Steelers?

Forcing out descendants of Papa Bear wouldn't be a great day for the NFL. There is no NFL or even Packers without the great George Halas.

Part of this is on Halas himself for having weak sperm and producing no male heir.

The last renovation cost $587m. The Bears chipped in a paltry $100m, as did the NFL, with the city borrowing $387 for the rest. After making payments for 20 years and various refinancings, the city currently owes $640m (!). That kind of malfeasance should scare any taxpayer from allowing their government to pay for a billionaire's plaything--especially now that stadiums are 10x the cost.

There's some dots to connect but now that we know Terry Link was wired up at the time the gaming bill was negotiated, I suspect more than a few players are squirming right now.

It was odd that Neil Bluhm didn't get the Chicago casino when it looked like that was a done deal.

We may find out about the machinations between Bluhm, CDI, and the gaming board.

Is Mugs the male heir that was never produced?
