For sure. Even knowing it, he still has to be pissed as Monahan basically made him into Captain PGA last year and none of it mattered.

As if on cue you can tune into WSCR for Larry and Dan hand wringing and calling out the sports washing. I may be wrong but Larry may have said he will never speak of golf again going forward.

This is so much worse than an upstart, off-season b-league failing.

This is the biggest organization in the sport trying to high horse the upstart, blackball its players, draw moral distinctions between the two and then abandoning all that after about a year.

There might be some truth to all of that.

It is in no way shape or form "the biggest L a pro sports league has ever taken." badrogue, as usual in a golf thread, hasn't a fucking clue of what he is talking about.

How quickly they forget...

https://www.todays-golfer.com/news-and- ... -liv-golf/

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan has ruled out ever working with LIV Golf, despite a host of the world’s best players moving to the Saudi Arabia-backed rebel tour.

Speaking at the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow, where LIV players are banned from both the US and International teams, Monahan reiterated his stance on the Greg Norman-fronted tour and shot down any hope of a positive relationship.

“I think I’ve been pretty clear on this. I don’t see it happening,” he said. “When you look at where we are and you think about words and actions we are currently in a lawsuit so coming together and having conversations, to me, that card is off the table and has been for a long period of time.

I saw this as headline news on ESPN .

I have no idea about golf but from an layman's pov, it looks like LIV won and won big.

They forced PGA to make changes that golfers were asking for for decades.

And now they got the merger.

But it's probably bad for golfers. PGA now can go back to their grandfathered ways and not be forced to update the game.

Remember Greg Norman in the 80s with the Green Boston Celtics hat - wink wink nudge nudge - everyone knew what that guy was always about.

He turned down $500 million on principle and then the group he stayed with took the money he turned down.

I don't know why you would celebrate one of the few examples of principles over money.

Will be interesting to see if he gets some kind of golden parachute to go away. I was a huge Norman fan growing up and learned a lot from reading his golf instructional book as a young player.

Like him or not he made a lot of players on the PGA tour richer today.

He helped a bit but when Norman was in his heyday a big time purse at a golf tournament was $1 million for the entire field with the winner taking $180k. Tiger is the one that really moved the meters with making pro golfers generationally rich.

I think I am going to wait a few days to see what comes out on this before spouting my opinion. Still don't understand what this is actually going to look like.

One little misnomer here, the LIV guys did not get all of that signing bonus at once. They basically signed 4 year deals and it was spread out accordingly.
