Its nice that Monahan and Rory can now go back to putting gas in their cars and start flying again.

Monahan went on CBS with Jim Nantz and in reference to 9/11 families asked if players ever had to apologize for being on the PGA tour. That was a year ago. I don't see how he sticks around past the Ryder Cup going forward.

Kind of like LIV didn't want anyone to see their horrific tv ratings and stopped reporting them. In the end, they came to a compromise and Monahan looks like a smuck, Goodell has been in a similar position many times.

The LIV and Saudis didn’t care about ratings or money considering how much they threw at these golfers. This was the PGA’s credibility to lose and they lost it.

It wasn't always rainbows and Unicorns with LIV, clearly they weren't enthused with the way the Greg Norman LiV circuit was working.

Seems like the PGA had the upper hand and were winning then . Why did they capitulate?

Yet here you are in a golf thread- a subject where you had a grand total of five posts over the last decade before today- interjecting yourself into a conversation that involves me.

I own you.

Why did either side, my guess is money.

In fairness with the TV ratings, its tough to issue ratings for LIV when the CW networks break away from televising a playoff to show a rerun of whatever Cedric the Entertainer or Bernie Mac show that was on the docket

I don't care who "won" or who "lost" and I'm already bored with the discussion. All I care about is that it appears all the best golfers will be playing against each other again.

They already were playing together when it mattered.

This is an incredibly fun story about managerial incompetence. It’ll go away eventually but not before the Irish disavow Monahan’s ancestry.

From a purely business standpoint, what is incompetent about what he just did? He brought in billions and killed the main rival/threat at the same time. After the initial PR hit the players will get over it as will the fans.

Because he spent a year attacking a group as complicit in 9/11 before partnering with them.

I don’t think we know what size investment PIF is making or what that means in terms of their influence in the PGA. For all we know, he just sold golf’s history to the Saudis while alienating every guy who stuck by him.

As an Irish-American, I disavow.

Us Mick's need to stick together.

And we do know that the Saudis have millions to burn. And that Monahan left those loyal to him high and dry.

I agree.

Let’s all just make fun of Monahan today and those of us who are able, disavow.

Monahan is Gary Bettman, his job is to make the constituents money while taking the criticism. But this is probably his swan song.

Greg Norman looks like a total fuck up in all of this.

I will be curious if some PGA players and media followers treat the lesser LIV golfers as some sort of scabs, like NFL players with those who were on the replacement teams years ago.

I think is the only way that this deal got done, especially considering Norman was totally left out.

At first probably/maybe. Guys like DJ will probably be fine, but douche's like Phil or Reed might have a tougher go of it. All will likely be fine IN DUE TIME. The Ryder Cup locker rooms could be interesting.
