Can you imagine the pressure on this upcoming shot?

They need to ban those yardage books. Very annoying.

Wyndham Clark is more compelling than Nicola Jokic.

Watching this just makes me miss Tiger Woods more. He would have ran away with this back in the day by burying big putts.

Yeah. I think they said he made 1 put over 5 feet today. If he had any sort of putting game today he would have run away with it.

I would rather watch what happened today than see 1 guy run away and hide from the pack.

Early Sunday evening golf might have got ratings. I watched, and I don't watch golf unless it's the Masters. There was nothing else on. I haven't seen Ricky Fowler in years, the skateboarder golfer, and now he's old and shaped like a coke bottle.

And goes +5 on a Sunday

I am sure they want to have a major event in LA but based on comments from the players I wouldn't be surprised to see it moved to maybe another site in CA. Sounds like the members of the club got a lot of tickets allocated to them and hardly anyone was on the grounds for the tournament. Sounds like kind of an LA thing to do. I honestly didn't watch as much golf as anticipated because of the west coast timing and the low scoring sort of drew me away but the weekend seemed a bit more US Open like.

A hell of an up and down on 17, and he was lucky the right was wide open on 18 but a great par. He tried to do almost everything he could to lose it beforehand.

Good viewing the last two evenings but if they never hold another tournament at that place again I'd be cool with it.

This is one of those moments I don’t understand golf.

Why was that different than what happened to Hovland?
Hovland got a free drop, but his swing that put the ball into the mess counted.
Quote:
For golf fans confused as to why McIlroy got to move his ball without a penalty, the answer lies in the embedded golf ball rule. Here's what the USGA's website says in part: "This is an appropriate exception to the principle of playing the ball as it lies because having to play a ball that is stuck in soft or wet ground (whether in the fairway or the rough) should not be considered part of the normal challenge of playing a course."

Now, there's a huge caveat here. The ball can NOT be embedded in the sand. In that case, a player must play it as it lies or take an unplayable and add a penalty stroke. But it was (correctly) ruled that McIlroy's ball was not in the sand, but above the bunker.

This is the same situation that happened to two contenders at last month's PGA Championship, Viktor Hovland and Corey Conners. Both players hit fairway bunker shots that plugged in the lip on Oak Hill's 16th hole and received free relief.
https://www.golfdigest.com/story/us-ope ... -on-sunday

I will say this is a bit squirrelly as you could argue that having to hit out of a divot isn't 'part of the normal challenge of the course', and I would agree.

Ended up being 18 players under par.

PGA Tour star Matt Fitzpatrick has about had it with Hollywood’s lack of enthusiasm at the U.S. Open.

“Very poor,” Fitzpatrick said to describe the atmosphere at Los Angeles Country Club this weekend, according to Barstool.

“It’s disappointing on the USGA side. They want a great tournament — from what I’ve heard a lot of members bought tickets and that’s why there’s so many less people. Hopefully, it’s not the same for other U.S. Opens going forward.”

Overnight mist, clouds hung around and no wind.

And they had to get 156 golfers through two rounds on a compacted course. It was set up easy the first two days to help facilitate that. I will take any bet on the under -18.

This also is another reason to not have US Opens at a course with limited space.

After this year, I can't imagine anyone is going to break 66 at Pinehurst #2 next year. And if someone does, God help them all at Shinnecock on 2025.

I've played a lot of golf and seen some rough breaks in that time for various people.

I've never seen that exact "bank" before. It was Sunday. Even today, banks aren't open.

Looks like most of the future sites are already set through 2051, with mostly the same courses:

2023, 2039: The Los Angeles Country Club (Calif.) (North Course)
2024, 2029, 2035, 2041, 2047: Pinehurst Resort & C.C. (Course No. 2) - Village of Pinehurst, N.C.
2025, 2033, 2042, 2049: Oakmont Country Club - Oakmont, Pa.
2026: Shinnecock Hills Golf Club - Southampton, N.Y.
2027, 2032, 2037, 2044: Pebble Beach Golf Links - Pebble Beach, Calif.
2028: Winged Foot Golf Club - Mamaroneck, N.Y
2030, 2050: Merion Golf Club - Ardmore, Pa.
2034, 2051: Oakland Hills Country Club (South Course) - Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Years still undetermined:
2031, 2036, 2038, 2040, 2043, 2045, 2046, 2048

Kind of depressing seeing that in my lifetime we'll probably never have another one in Illinois. I wish they would open it up a bit more, bring back Medinah and Olympia Fields. I bet they could make Whistling Straits tough enough as well.
