Timmay is beyond awful.

Long, tough road trip after the break. 20 games under .500 is a real possibility

How is it even possible that TA has no homeruns and 13 RBI at the all star break?

Talk about falling off a cliff

Very appropriate that Jackie has a chance to win the game and strikes out to end it. Nice bow to wrap up the first half of the season for him.

He's got a lot of company going off a cliff.

This team played today like guys who were more focused on playing golf or whatever plans they have during the break. Great job, Pedro.

Christ. All they had to do was go .500.

I mean, everyone saw this shittiness coming, right? I am so not surprised.

OPS+ of 48 (before today's 0 for 5), a mediocre fielder, and questionable attitude. He'll be lucky to get any kind of contract.

At this point I would seriously consider not picking up his option for next year

So, both the Cubs and Sox take college shortstops. The Sox go in a little different direction this year than the past two years and take a more polished player rather than a tools guy. I like the move. I want someone who will be ready sooner. However, he seems like some one who is more of a floor guy than a ceiling guy. Scouting report:

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 55 | Run: 40 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55

Gonzalez earned national freshman of the year recognition in 2021 and helped Mississippi win its first-ever College World Series championship last June. The U.S. collegiate national team's starter at shortstop the last two summers, he could be the first player drafted at that position in 2023. He's a lock to become the first Rebels position player ever selected in the first round.

Gonzalez has the bat-to-ball skills and control of the strike zone to be at least a solid hitter, and he has been more consistent in 2023 after hunting home runs too much as a sophomore. With his strength, bat speed and the leverage in his left-handed stroke, he has 25-homer potential. He does a nice job of using the entire field, with most of his over-the-fence power going to his pull side.

While Gonzalez regularly displays below-average speed out of the batter's box, he may be quick enough to stay at shortstop. His instincts and rhythm help his cause at short, where he covers ground with long strides and has solid arm strength. Some evaluators wonder if he'll have to shift to third base or second base, but if so he'd be able to profile as a quality regular at either position.

Mediocre is a very generous evaluation of Timmay's defense

Mrs Rogue ought to send Bria her number since she is the expert on being married to a toolbag.

Giolito always looks to leave a commitment at its midpoint.

I know there is a better joke in there for a true craftsman

I have to say that I am completely shocked at how bad Anderson is doing this year. I watched a bit of the baseball draft and one of the kids drafted early in round one talked about what present player he admired and wanted to emulate and the kid said(he was a short-stop) said he really loved Anderson for his competitiveness. Obviously the kid hasn't seen what the 2023 Anderson is all about this season. You really have to wonder if timMAY is maybe on something? He is missing making any solid contact on the ball and I do not believe that the problem is injury related. Not the way he is swinging the bat. I do not think his head is on straight. I have never seen this happen like is has with a difference aas great as this is with timMAY. I really hate to say this because I have been a real fan of his play with the Sox until now.

I see a lot of people saying they shouldn't invoke his option next year. I would bet on him returning to form. It would be so unusual for a person to drop off such a cliff at age 30 and we know he has both physical and domestic issues. Also, the price at 14 million isn't some millstone around the neck. If he returns, its a steal. If not, it's a one year deal and it gives Montgomery another year of development, because you know the Sox love to rush their players

Fair, but this isn't just some bad slump with Anderson. Its been a calendar year; .232avg, .541 OPS, 1 HR, 17 RBI, -1.7 WAR over the last 365 days. That's not good at all. That's barely MLB level and in some cases guys with that little production at the plate who play poorly in the field (Hi, Leury!) are shipped out entirely. Its possible this might be who Anderson is now.

I'll give you issues, but that's part of it as well with the entire left side of the Sox field- Eloy, Timmay, Moncada. They get hurt far too often and miss significant time. Sometimes the greatest ability a guy can have is availability and Anderson has only played in more than 120 games twice in his career.

Jerry would love the chance to shed $14 mil in favor of paying an aging veteran $4-5mil and pocket the rest. You know this is true.

Heyman reports the Sox are protecting four players from trade: Dylan Cease, Luis Robert Jr. -- who's a first-time All-Star this season --, Andrew Vaughn and Eloy Jiménez. Unless a team offers an irrefutable package for any of these players, it's unlikely they will be traded at the deadline.
Don't "protect" anyone. Nobody in the organization is untradeable at this point. Ask for the moon for those four guys if you want, but don't let on they are untouchable or protected.

I agree. In what universe is Andrew Vaughn untouchable? Hahn’s head is so far up his ass they need to move on before he does something incredibly stupid.

Of course not. You'll get a lot for 4.30 ERA Cease and a lot for 'got hurt swinging' Robert. Vaughn and Eloy are big question marks about what you could get. The rest of the sad bunch, you'll get lottery scratch offs. I'm still in the camp of signing Giolito, but there's no chance JR will pony up or that Lucas wants any part of this clusterfuck.

I saw that too. I'm probably giving the front office too much credit, but the only explanation I can think of is there is no demand for Vaughn, so they are trying to make him feel good by calling him "untouchable". Sure, some teams would take him because he's cheap, but the return would be less than the positive of him being cheap for the Sox too.

Jerry's.

Vaughn will likely put up slightly above average numbers, and he's cheap and controllable for the next few years. That's absolutely perfect for Jerry's White Sox.

Serious question, what is a team going to offer for those "untouchables"...especially the ones who seem to be "China Dolls"? I realize teams feel that a change in training regimen would fix the issues, but what might they be willing to give?

Eloy has a career WAR of 5.7. Robert, 11.5 WAR. Cease, 10.7.

Will the guys you receive in a trade for do better than the number above? Maybe you can get a 6 WAR MLB player for Eloy, but I wouldn't be so sure about the other two.

Vaughn is a career 0.6 WAR. That's "untouchable" in White Sox World, but they would likely move Burger and his 1.1 WAR for a lottery ticket.

This organization sucks.
