Bellinger is on fire. It's important they they trade him for a couple of teenagers that never sniff MLB

Cubs werent going to do shit this year regardless but Bellinger missing the 25 plus games with the injury when they were going well didnt help . Not a stretch to think theyd be at or above .500 if he’s healthy all year .

If my aunt had a weiner she'd be uncle. They also went into this season with no reasonable solution at first or third base
And no closer

And on the subject of first base, it's been two years since Rizzo has been traded how the fuck can they not fill that position? It's the easiest position to fill in baseball

So Mervis isnt the answer now ? You were having a fucking cow that he wasnt here and automatically put into the lineup everyday because he can hit AAA pitching .

The challenge system they are trialing at AAA ( the last three games of each six game series) is designed for this kind of shit. It works very quickly, maybe the equivalent of one extra pitch per challenge.

I didn't see it live because I was in the car - I don't have Apple TV so I was listening to Meatpants call the game on XM. (Meatpants is better than Zaidman, because he knows he is bad and just concentrates on the count and the score and not missing any pitches).

But Marmol has to come out and get tossed there.

Meats PBP was... weird. I guess he called every pitch. He told me about 30 times the game was at Wrigley and the weather was nice. He gave the score and inning every 30 seconds. He was so desperate to call every pitch that he talked over his color lady (whoever the hell she was) instead of letting the conversation flow and call just balls in play like most pbp guys do when there's actual analysis happening. I think there was a point in the second inning where three consecutive singles were "muscled" out to the outfield. All that being said he's miles better than ZZ who shouldn't be allowed near a microphone for any reason.

Hard not to be better than Zach. I swear I've never heard a play by play guy say the score as much as he does. Its immediate ptb when I hear his voice.

The woman doing color was New Trier's Elise Menaker, who is Taylor McGregor's less attractive backup on the Marquee broadcasts. She also does some studio work both for Marquee and SNY. I am disappointed that she spells her last name differently than Sam Menacker, as it would be cool if she was his granddaughter.

The first time Meatpants did an inning of PBP earlier this season, he arranged for both Joe Buck and Jason Benetti to come on with him and Parkins the next day and brutally critique it. He actually seems to want to learn.

he broadcasts each pitch as if the horns are playing from mel allen's this week in baseball theme music. over does it. fans turned on wisdom the other day and former all-star 3rd baseman ron coomer told us that wisdom wasn't too bad defensively at 3rd base last year. wisdom was near the bottom in fielding percentage. in double figues in fielding and throwing errors. couldn't believe that coomer made that comment.

That started out annoyingly, but ended up being a good win.

Have to say, the funny thing about the Cubs is they were correct in trading and not resigning Rizzo, Baez, etc. Seems to me they need a mega signing next offseason. If Soto is on the market, overpay.

I think he will get 7/190 this winter unless he totally falls apart in these next 2.5 months. Offer him a 3/90 extension so his contract would be in line timewise with Hoerner and Happ, and you are deliberately overpaying in AAV for the privilege. If he declines, adios muchacho.

Do Boras' clients always test free agency? Bellinger is on pace for 5+ WAR.

Rarely do Boras clients not test free agency. Could see Bellinger get traded and then sign with the Cubs, though I wouldn't do it. Strasburg is one of the rare exceptions.

They are Boras client's because they want to test free agency.

He is like a penny stock that hit for the Cubs. Greedy people want to keep holding as it will undoubtedly continue to go up, rather than taking the profit.

No reason they can't sign him in the off season. Boras clients almost universally go to the highest bidder. Just be the highest bidder.

A great example of a dumbass "baseball tradition" ruining your chances of winning the game. You put a guy on base and your starting pitcher leaves after throwing 14 pitches.

"This game used to police itself!" - says the Cardinals color guy. Whoever the guy is and Chip were a fun listen in inning number 1.

If he got it done in one pitch he gets to stay in game.. Can't go back to the well.

That's true...it did take two pitches. I thought Cardinal pitchers didn't like Wilson, now their defending his honor? Happ has a big backswing, he got Wilson...things happen.
