It was odd that Neil Bluhm didn't get the Chicago casino when it looked like that was a done deal.

We may find out about the machinations between Bluhm, CDI, and the gaming board.

Link has not aged well. He was a regular years ago at a club I managed.

Bluhm was supposed to get the casino?

Is Mugs the male heir that was never produced?

Everyone thought it was signed, sealed, and delivered. It was a mystery why it went to Bally's. Bluhm as all the juice.

But once rumors started that Link wore a wire (confirmed in the Weiss trial), you can kind of read between the lines. If there's a connection between the Gaming Board, CDI, Bluhm, and the sale of the AP property to the Bears and Link recorded the "negotiations", I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bears stay in Chicago.

Why don't you clear up what male Halas heir has owned the Bears?

I think Bluhm was one of the guys that bigfan said tried to buy into the Bears.

He was. It's been the same 4-5 local guys for decades.

So this was all just a play to make sure Arlington Park got torn down and the Bears were just patsies?

Someone told them to get in on it but they mistakenly invested in a mall in Vernon Hills.

I wouldn't say that exactly. But there were obviously behind the scenes machinations. Once CDI got control of Rivers, the writing was on the wall for Arlington. Now, what role the Gaming Board and who did what for whom is the question. A lot of people have to be wondering what Link taped.

I think it's more about Pritzker helping Bluhm settle an old score from when the Bears denied his ownership play, twice.

That is a very likely explanation.
It could also be the city using the Cook County Assessment office to try and strong-arm the Bears to stay.

Tinley Park is redeveloping the old mental hospital site on 183rd & Harlem. I always thought that would have been a great place for a new Sox/Bears stadium. Right off I-80 and the Metra Rock Island is there as well.

Good for Richton Park for shooting their shot.

That would've work as well.

Richton Park has a ton of land that can be developed.

The only way to get the Bears to stay in Chicago is to write a check for $2 or $3 billion. That's why AH is going to happen one way or another. The city can play all the games they want but there is a 0% chance the Bears stay where they are without a massive investment from the city/state. This is just a game of chicken where ultimately the Bears will win but may not win as much as they had hoped.

The infrastructure is already in place for the Bears to remain in Chicago. At least in the Richton Park, the people won't show up bitching about the Bears and businesses developing on all their undeveloped land. Also, it's easily accessible by MANY expressways and public transportation.

It all depends on how much the city is willing to give up to keep them. There is a magic number where it makes sense. Will the Curious Hair types let them do it? After all, stadiums are money losers for cities but Chicago seems desperate to stop the Bears from building their own private stadium and Curious Hair HATES the idea of them moving to Arlington Heights.

It is. You just have to modify the stadium so it doesn't look like trash. That's cheaper than whatever they're planning in wine and cheese country.

I'm with Curious Hair; I hope the Arlington Heights plan fails.

It could also be the city using the Cook County Assessment office to try and strong-arm the Bears to stay.

This is false

It is. You just have to modify the stadium so it doesn't look like trash. That's cheaper than whatever they're planning in wine and cheese country.

Ok, you modify the stadium and you still have a parking/public transportation situation that sucks. AH already has that solved.

They'd basically have to redo everything about the stadium. It must be a dome. It must provide the ability for the Bears to make massive amounts of money on non-football events. It has to have more stuff to do around the stadium.

Sell the Bears the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and Soldier Field for $1. Move those things to Arlington Heights.

It would be funny after all of this if the Arlington racetrack site ended being turned into a Star Wars museum.

AH doesn't have that solved. They don't remotely know what to do with tens of thousands of drunk people routinely showing up to their city. Chicago is an expert when it comes to dealing with folks under the influence.

While I agree with you BRick that this will eventually get done, I do not agree there is a magic number for the Bears. The Bears want / need to outright own the stadium. That is never going to happen in Chicago.
Infrastructure around Soldier Field is a disaster and any type o renovation project will cost more than the suburban sites.

I personally could care less where they play.
