Kmet sucks. Bears should be looking to upgrade that position and could/should have spent that money elsewhere. Not a fan of this.

I know, but I still enjoy watching him admit it.

I hope Kmet continues to improve, but that was an overpayment. The market or his production doesn't warrant that kind of contract.

It's an inexcusable contract. Or I guess "pretty cheap", depending on your pov.

Kmet was 4th in TD receptions for TE's in football last year. He's been shitty his entire Bears career, but he was less shitty the 2nd half of 2022. We knew they were going to pay him, Poles even admitted it.

Inexcusable is paying Jordan Love 16 million dollars this year.

No that's pretty excusable for a starting QB who you don't know if he's any good or not.

You're pretty bad at this still.

Not really. But Packers fans still think the salary cap is a myth, so whatever helps you sleep at night.

I don't care if he's paid like a top ten TE or is #40 in TE salaries. He is absolutely not worth $50 million. If the market says he is, then let the market pay for him and let the Bears upgrade the position.

good dolphin will absolutely love this deal.

So a guy with 600 career passing yards, deserves to be salaried in the top half of NFL QBs?

He's not.

Love's base salary is $1.1 million.

The rest of his cash comes from a signing bonus, workout/roster bonus, etc.

And even when you factor total cash, Love is #20 in the league. His cap hit is $4.4 mil, #34 in the league.
I'm no math major, but I don't believe that 20 nor 32 is in the top half of the top of half starting NFL QBs.

Now sort on avg/year which impacts cap, (I know you think it's a myth). He's in the top half of QB's despite not accomplishing a damn thing in the NFL.

The Kmet sucks camp needs to show its work at this point. Maybe last year the burden of proof was on me (and I most definitely provided plenty of evidence). Now it is you who is making the more outrageous claim.

I've always wanted him extended and I think he earned it. He got Jonnu Smith money. Almost the same exact contract. He's better than Smith. Tied for 9th in TE AAV (with Smith and Hunter Henry). Henry seems like a pretty good comparable.

I think he is still ascending. It takes TE longer to develop and he showed an objective jump in year 3. He won't be elite but he is a 3 down TE. His presence wouldn't prevent me from drafting Bowers if he is there next year.

In conclusion, maybe just a little rich, but not to a point it is ever going to be a problem. If he matches last year, it's about market rate. If he ends up benefitting from the improved WR room, its a contract slightly favorable to the Bears.

I like players who like football and being Bears

Guaranteed money is the only thing that matters for future cap, and he's not in the top half of the NFL. He's right around where he should be. I'm sorry your attempted dunk failed so badly. Enjoy the Kmet contract though!

It's really a pretty easy case. He hasn't shown anything as a receiver, and great blocking TEs go for 2 mil a year.

On the other hand, there is no case to be made that Kmet deserves this type of contract or that he is in fact "good". It is you who still has the burden of proof if you somehow think otherwise.

His QB can't throw though. The Bears pass offense was horrendous. He basically got the same contract as Hunter Henry with similar production.

Another photo to help you;

This means there are 18 QBs with a higher average $ than Love. 18 out of 32 is not the top half of starting QBs.

If you want to say all NFL QBs, you're including backups and third stringers which absolutely does not help your case

Henry was just one example, and keep in mind that salaries across the board for non-RB's are going up. Kmet with average at best production is worth that contract especially at his age and the fact that his quarterback is likely suppressing his stats.

There are only two elite TE's in the NFL and Kmet is paid far less than them. Kmet was 3rd in touchdowns last year. Kmet was 13th in yards. This was while being 13th in targets.

2022 Kmet TE rankings

16th in Rec
13th in Yards
2nd in penalties
19th Rec yards per game

5th in TDs, but lets break this down since he went over a calendar year without finding the end zone
All were in Bears losses, and yes there was a lot of these but still.
His first TD was against Dallas in week 8 when the score was 42-23
He followed up with two good games against Miami and Detroit. He then didn't find the end zone until garbage time in week 17 and 18.

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/nfl-mo ... -ends-2022

For what its worth, he doesn't make the top 15 according to PFF.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not rooting against Kmet. But if you're going to spend $50mil on a TE, it has to be on a play better than Cole Kmet. My suspicion is that you would not be as high on Kmet if he had a different alma mater.
