 Best fans in baseball!!!!

Happ had no reason to intentionally hurt him, and if anyone was going to go after him on the Cubs Happ would probably be the last guy to do it.

Just stupid.

The announcer kept saying have some feel, he didnt go after his head. WTF? He literally went after Happs head with the first attempt.

Greatest asshats in baseball!!

So fucking glad to see them struggling! I hope it lasts for 10 years

No issue with Mikolas sticking up for his guy. Thats baseball, and good for him for having the stones to do so.

But, you can't have an issue with the umps ejecting Mikolas either. They seemed to feel it was intentional and it probably was so they made the desicion.

Also, props to Happ for just dropping the bat and going to 1st.

If there was a reason to stand up for his teammate then I would agree with you Frank. But there was no reason. They hugged. It was just a freak baseball thing that happens. Just like a liner back at the pitcher. It happens, but was not something the guy meant to do.

Chip Carey said "Let's see if they allow him (Willson Contreras) to be stitched up and return to the game?" Who's the team doctor Speedy Gonzalez?

 Aside from that, does he not understand MLB rules? The backup catcher was already coming on to the field, this isn't little league, once you leave a game you can't return.

To be fair, Wesneski gave up a HR to Nootbar to lead off the game.

This fraudulent pre-trade deadline playoff run beating MLB bottom dwellers has to be the last thing Hoyer wants. His hand will be forced to keep Stroman & Bellinger. They'll go into an August & September swoon. MS & CB are lost to free agency. Cubs get nothing. Miss the playoffs.

Hoyer's contract ends after the 2025 season, and he's unlikely to be allowed to be a lame duck. So Ricketts will have a decision to make after 2024.

Getting up to 83-84 wins this year will go a long way towards him not firing Hoyer. There are plenty of starters in FA to replace Stroman. I'm starting to think that they will slap the QO on Bellinger and offer him a 7 year deal knowing that the FA market is going to wait until Ohtani sets the new top of the market.

Pete Alonzo is a FA after 2024. Would the Mets consider selling him now? Lock up Bellinger and Alonzo to hit 3-4, push Suzuki and Happ down to hit 6-7, and live with Madrigal/Mastrobuoni hitting 9th at 3B.

You are perpetually negative. Since the start of the year it has been obvious that this team is halfway there with a now much improved minor league pipeline. The Cubs have underperformed relative to their run differential. It is a decided average team that has a good foundation.

100%

I thought of the Angels general manager (Perry Minasian) when I read this. His contract ends after the 2024 season. They're currently 6 games out of 1st place and 4 games out of the wildcard. I'd go for it too if I were Minasian. Imagine interviewing for the next GM job having to explain why you traded away a generational player. Fuck that shit. Go for it now and if you land a wild card spot, you've got Ohtani pitching game 1 and also batting behind a healthy Mike Trout.

Depends on who gets traded this afternoon. If the Arenado to the Dodgers talk is real, they will just lay down and die.

But yeah, this will be Wainwright's last start against the Cubs and there's going to be a lot of extra emotion. He could easily throw 5 scoreless. He is more likely to give up 7 in 2 2/3.

I dont buy any of the smoke of Arenado to the Dodgers. I think the Cardinals will make a few trades, but they will not get rid of Goldy or Arenado. The best fans in baseball ( ) would revolt. They are in a similar situation as the Sox. They have major pitching problems with nothing really at the minor league level ready to go. I am sure they could get some pitching for Arenado, but then they would have a major offense issue to deal with and I just can't see them being willing to go thru the PR nightmare of dealing their stud who they have under contract for a little while.

Happ absolutely owns Waino. 7 HRs against him now.
