Miles mastroboni moved to minors to make
Room for madrigal.

Miles was doing pretty good this last week.

Couldn’t they have sent someone else down less productive?

Hopefully they will trade Barnhart this weekend and go back to having just two catchers.

They were bumslayers in '16. Why not give it another whirl

Well I guess the narrative around here as changed. They went from complete suck age and terrible to well they are only beating bad teams. It was obvious in April that the team was much improved and that several of their signings and young guys showed promise. I love seeing people trying to explain away their solid play of late.

So ~100 games against teams with a losing record. Thanka for proving my point, Scot.

Winning % vs >.500 teams

55% 2016 Cubs
54% 2005 White Sox

White Sox only had 16 (10% of 162 game schedule) more regular season games vs >.500 teams

Cool story bro. Now look at how MANY games the '05 Sox played against sub .500 teams.

If they don't trade Bellinger & Stroman. Lose both to FA and the Cubs are say 10 under .500 the rest of '23. Hoyer's going to look pretty foolish and and have some 'splainin to do.

He could have traded ConeTreras and chose not to for some strange reason.

We will see soon enough

I would still look to trade Stroman if the right deal came along, but thats it. They can look to add a couple small moves, nothing that will really take away from your minors. They need to add a lefty out of the pen and another bat.

You have to roll the dice and see how things go. Sure they are still long shots to make the playoffs and win anything, but they have sold enough over the last few years. It is time to start putting the focus onto winning.

I would sign Bellinger to an extension and put him at 1B and look to trade Mervis in the offseason.

They had a deal for Contreras lined up - for Jose Urquidy of the Astros, one for one. But at the last minute, Dusty Baker had a fit and insisted that the Astros back off.

He could have traded somewhere else for a bag of balls Chet.

He got nothing for him and he could be in the same place this off season with Stroman and Bellinger.

To say he got nothing is not quite true. They got a draft pick from declining the qualifying offer.

Now Stroman if they do not deal or sign then they would truly get nothing for.

Felt like they just didnt give a shit to win today. Once they announced Bellinger wont' be traded it's like they lost that edge that they were playing for nobody getting traded.

Im fine with them signing Bellinger , 5/150 ish? Im thinjing he's going to get a lot more than that though and the Cubs wont match . Get Stroman out of here as quick as you can because his numbers are going to look abysmal by the end of the year.

Bellinger probably gets a Heyward-level contract - 7 years, $185M but with inflation $200M. With one of those fucking stupid opt-outs as well.

But given that Hoyer's contract ends in 2025, I think he has to go for it and try to re-sign him.

Watched today's game highlights. Morel is even worse defensively in LF. Let a lazy fly drop right in front of him early. Then while playing deep late in the game let's a long fly drop at the base of the outfield wall over his head not far from where he was playing. Seems to freeze on first jump then wears lead boots on his panic adjustments.

Unfortunately, they have to face another lefty today. Andrew Abbott's been unhittable since being called up last month. Cincinnati is 9 games above .500 and sit alone in 1st place in the NL Central. I'm going to throw a little money on them to win the World Series at +6000 before the odds start decreasing as the week goes along.

Cubs trade for Candelario from the Nationals. Per Rosenthal
