That and the fact that its July/August.

I remember hearing reports EVERY year about how great Rex Grossman looked in camp.

The fact of the matter is that Fields struggled with making timely reads and throwing accurately last season.

To this point in camp, he is still struggling in those areas.

Dismiss camp all you want, but it's pretty clear that Fields hasn't yet made the "third year leap" many are hoping for.

Im not necessarily dismissing anything. Im simply saying no leap is made in training camp.

Maybe not, but it sure would be encouraging if he could get through 7 on 7s without throwing an interception.

Both moves make sense, a pure pass rush specialist on a one year deal, they will have to draft a few of these guys next year because teams do not let good young pass rushers get to FA often, and a veteran blocking TE to help out your two young and unproven tackles.

If what you hear in the podcast world is true, and even if it is you are hearing it from some goof that knows just as much or less than you do about football, there are a few positives and negatives early.

They are supposedly working on the passing game heavily in practice, they know Fields can run the ball and expect them to try to run the ball early and often, but he has to improve dramatically or they will be forced to use draft capital next year. The fact that the offense is struggling against one of the worst defenses in the NFL is concerning because that is without Fields running for his life as large angry DE's and DT's are beating his pedestrian offensive line with regularity.

Hearing that Wright is struggling in pass pro against the Bears terrible DE's is concerning, expect Nate Davis to miss time, that is why Vrabel hated the guy, Jenkins missing time early is a concern because they are paper thin at OG.

The legendary Roschon Johnson has shown none of the abilities that supposedly made him a steal in the draft, maybe that changes when the pads go on, but he seems to be at best a special teams guy at this point.

Very encouraging to hear that Dexter looks like a stud, but he is up against a rather average group of offensive linemen, so have to wait and see how he does in exhibition games.

Lucas Patrick taking most of the snaps at center yesterday could end up being a very big deal going forward if it continues.

Moving Whitehair back to LG? He was good there last season.

Edit: wasn't*

I turn off the radio if there's Bears talk or Grote comes on with an update. There's nothing more that can be said or talked about with Fields. Just have to wait until Sep. 10

It's because Poles didn't bother to ask around the league before giving bags of cash to Nate Davis.
He doesn't want to play football. And the other guard is a China doll

We've already seen where that will get us. He'll make some spectacular plays with his feet mostly against lesser teams or in the early part of games against better teams. But when he is forced to make plays in the passing game, he will fail.

Then hopefully he does so spectacularly so the Bears can get Caleb Williams.

It's pre-season, and look who is on his period here daily.

At least wait for the real season to start

Chase Claypool is the guy who has the fire and passion on offense. I like it. No stupid penalties in season though.

Grote seems like a great guy but that's probably why I don't like him as a beat guy. Never critical of anything. You need a grump like Brad Biggs.

Claypool leveled T.J. Edwards in practice a couple days ago then squeals like a baby when Eddie Jackson returns the favor on a legal hit. Pussy.

Apparently no one in the secondary can cover Tyler Scott. The problem, though, is that he's dropping balls with increasing frequency as camp moves along.

Yeah, Jaylon Johnson was essentially saying the offense had been pussies the entire camp. The guy who carries a purse can't be the only skill player that is willing to mix it up.

Nick Moreano and others who saw the play live said that Claypool was trying to get out of bounds but had not done so when Jackson hit him.

Based on camp reports--including some direct comparisons between the two--Scott is a far superior route runner to Velus. Scott can get open without running full speed and has the proverbial "other gear" that he breaks out to catch defenders off guard. He's a very smart player who is already adept at setting corners up for big plays.

The guy appears to be a significant talent. Let's hope his hands improve.

The Bears are following a staggered practice schedule. Only 1/3 of them are full effort, full contact.

Consequently, when people say "it's still early" regarding the Bears' offensive ineptitude in training camp, they're not being realistic.

Training camp isn't what it used to be even a few years ago. There are more off days, and the practices themselves are shorter and less intense. This framework makes it more difficult for young players to improve and thus poses an especially significant challenge for the Bears, who have one of the least experienced rosters in the NFL.
