Maybe because Ventura really beat the fuck out of him at the end of the fight. I get that it's a nice narrative that old ass Nolan Ryan beat up some young punk but that isn't really what happened. Ryan gave him nuggies like he was his little sister and at the end Ventura whacked him in the face pretty hard more than once. And the awesome photo of Ventura choking him out doesn't lie. But whatever. The narrative has been established. One thing for sure. Every major league player- probably even some of Ryan's teammates was pulling for Ventura. Ryan was and is a piece of shit.
