Several of the beat reporters said it was always planned to not have him play since he would get enough time in during Colts practice sessions. That said, if he is struggling with the rush and 11-11, I would have supported putting him out there for a few series. I expect he will play a quarter in the next game.

Bears running backs are good

Any thoughts on QB1?

Jim Miller's eyes work. He believes Fields has a processing issue.

I didn't like it. The kid needs a lot of work passing.

Inexcusable during the third off-season. Probably means he doesn't have "it".

I'm still considering this the second offseason. Again, an assumption, but the amount of changes Getsy and co. made to Fields' throw and footwork last offseason tells me Nagy and co. did jack shit for him. Maybe the switch will just flip at some point during the season. If not, I'm all for finding his potential replacement and making it a QB competition next training camp.

Having good to great receivers can help. You hope he eventually figures it out. It's hard when he doesn't get game reps.

Bagent got 2 reps with the 1's. The transition is happening.

Here's the thing about Getsy: he didn't do anything. It was all Fields. Getsy just put two and two together and let him run. Fields unworldly athletic ability caused everyone to exaggerate Getsy's "genius". The genius is Fields' motor and legs.

I can't remember where I read it, but I thought they changed his throwing motion and how he planted his feet both pre-snap and when throwing.

That's not accurate. We could visually see how the offense was modified to address Fields' limitations.

Yes but all the progress was not necessarily scheme it was just Fields being a badass imo. There's no scheme which calls for fields to hit 22mph. Credit to Getsy for playing to his strength but this isn't a case of a coach turning a nobody into a somebody via a scheme. This is a case of a running QB being told to run because he can't pass.

I do have a question for the class, so if Getsy came from Green Bay and supposedly the thing that has changed so much for Love is his footwork. I would assume the lessons brought would be similar, why can't Fields figure it out? (Apparently)

Fields has been an elite prospect since he was a freshman in high school, has attended all the top camps, worked with high-level trainers, and has had access to many of the best coaches on the planet.

When he drops back in the pocket, though, he still only looks slightly more comfortable than I would.

He couldn't beat out Jake Fromm at Georgia, couldn't beat out Andy Dalton with the Bears, and might not have even been as good as Trevor Siemian last year.

Maybe it's not the coaching. Maybe it's him.

Read it again. The article mentioned both. Its hard for me to imagine how locked in a few of your guys are in to your opinion that Fields is a failure already. By the way... What is the quarterback to do when his line collapses and there is not room to move up up? Did you happen to analyze what kind of offensive linemen that he had last season? How about that?

I agree. Getsy has to show hat he can handle the job. While the offensive line still needs work, it is much better than the crap of last year plus the running backs are better and deep and the receivers have a lot of talent. Getsy needs to play call around the talent that he has and not stick Field in an offense where he doesn't have options.

The article Nas posted? No it doesn't. I talks about him rolling out and stepping up to avoid pressure. We know he can do that.

As I've already said in this very thread, Fields is only partly to blame for his passing deficiencies last season. He had an unreliable offensive line last season, but he still had plenty of opportunities to connect with receivers when he faced little or no pressure--and yet he failed to do so. Why? Because he was slow to make decisions and struggled with accuracy. He failed as a passer last season, but that doesn't mean he has failed in his career. It just means he needs to improve in these areas--and a couple others--to continue as an NFL starting QB. So far it's not clear that he has made the necessary improvements to retain his starting position. This may simply be due to a lack of reps, a problem in the new era of soft training camp schedules. As a result, I think it is wise to wait until the second half of the season to see what Fields can really do. That's when things really came together for Lawrence last season, and the same thing could happen for Fields. Let's hope it does.

The Bears had Lucas Patrick at center and Whitehair at guard with the first team during yesterday's practice. Ugh.

They have ruined Whitehair with the flip flopping they have done with him. He is still a decent lineman, but I believe he could have been great had they put him at one position and kept him there.

Bears gotta trade or cut this Brock Bagent fella. Look what having a competent backup did to Trey Lance--killed his confidence and made him unplayable in actual NFL games. You gotta go with the Peyton Manning/Aaron Rodgers model of having a backup that the coaching staff would rather cut off their own dicks than have to play in an actual game. Sorry Tyson Purdy, you're too good, you gotta go. PJ Walker's QB2 going into the season. Nathan Peterman can be the weird, bad, white QB3 every team seems to be required to have on their roster.
