According to a Crain’s Chicago Business report, the Sox are considering a move from the place they’ve called home since 1991 when the team’s lease expires six seasons from now.

No decision is imminent, according to the report, which lists a new stadium in the city or suburbs and relocating to Nashville, Tenn., among the possibilities. The article also details that Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf might look to sell the Sox.

Honestly, I hope he dies before he can do anything else. This has gone on long enough. Any chance he has to be a selfish, fandom-destroying prick, he takes it.

No state income tax and a steady stream of bachelorette parties. Assuming they’re eventually owned by a non-Reinsdorf, I think that’d be an attractive market for FAs.

saw a lot of this too on the baseball sites all over the internets

this would be a really stupid move.

Jerry and the WSox FUCKED UP again even on the relocation.

You have Vegas there for a decade begging for a team. The White Sox colors would have been perfect match to the Raiders colors. They would have built him a stadium almost cost free to get the White Sox there. And the White Sox would have been a bigger draw to Vegas than the Oakland A's.

Waited too long. Nashville would be a bigger disaster than moving to St Pete back in 1991.

I dunno, they'd have to play indoors mid-May to late September or late start night games only if it's an outdoor baseball field.

Nashville weather the rest of this week:

Image

it's not a one-off miserable summer, just as bad last summer too.

and that's not dry, zona heat. that's 90%+ humidity and over 90 degree temps all fucking summer long.

I wouldn't care if Reinsdorf took his american league baseball organization to wherever he wants.

There would be a line of prospective owners waiting to start an expansion al franchise in chicago.

I don’t see how reinsdorf could ever move without a free stadium.

If somebody in a 10 gallon hat buys the Sox, the writing’s on the wall.

I would struggle with my fandom traveling to another city. There's no chance it could travel to another state. There is near zero chance the Sox will leave the state. It's highly unlikely they would leave the city. #NothingBurger

An expansion franchise has little chance of success. Cubs fans will remain Cubs fans. A portion of current Sox fans will follow wherever the Sox go. And young kids of Sox fans will split between the new franchise and the Cubs.

You would be looking at average attendance and viewership materially lower than the current Sox.

I’d be officially out if they moved. I also don’t think it’ll happen.

Let the city own lakefront cominsky once the bears move and slide the team over to a more aesthetically pleasing, less convenient location.

No way it ever happens. It is just positioning to try and get a new stadium.

More likely he's looking for an extension at somewhere close to the sweet deal he has now, as it makes the team more attractive to potential sales prospects.

Only those sales prospects who want to keep the team in Chicago. The Nashville ownership group has said that they want an expansion team, but if they can buy an existing team with less money, that would probably work.

Charlotte is a non starter for a MLB team. Their AAA stadium has to have a small air conditioned "club" for the people who sit behind home plate to go and cool off. They'd never be able to draw 2 million fans a year unless they did a retractable dome.

He'll never get one here unless he pays for it himself. However, I would suspect Nashville would give him a pretty sweet arrangement. If that's what he's going to insist on, see you later Jerry.

If somebody can invent a baseball building with a roof on it, Nashville’s got a chance.

A roofed athletic ball sport field house.

Nashville has an odd-ball collection of folks working to bring MLB to the Music City, including Dave Stewart/Eddie George/TLR/Radio guy Bobby Bones/fmr AG Alberto Gonzalez et al. Dave Dombrowski was part of the effort until he decided to go ruin the Phillies organization chasing another World Series. Looks like it's mostly multi-millionaire career corporate types. No billionaires on the roster; which apparently they'll need at least one Mariana Trench deep pockets dude to get the other MLB owners to sign off on giving Nashvegas a de novo mlb franchise. They have a few folks tangentially connected to the health care industry, which is where the Real Money resides in Nashville. Most of that local health care money backed the MLS team tho. So they probably don't want the competition for their gay football thing:

https://www.mlbmusiccity.com/leadership-roster/

If it's either the Rays or White Sox then it'd be the current owners maintaining ownership? Dunno how that'd play out.

The MLB group has been passing around a plan for a baseball park right next to the Titans new stadium across the Cumberland from Broadway. But the Titans owners told em that's not happening. Probably they'll have to pay off the Titans owners to get the park built there if that's what they really want.

Isn't that why the Rays want out of Tampa (technically St Petersburg, I think)? tired of playing baseball in an overgrown bounce house.
