I'm shocked.

25 didn't do the Dodgers any good. I'd say 10 is about right.

Tampa has 37 and regularly do pretty well with a low payroll.

I'm happy for them. Exciting baseball. Openers, field turf in a garage, laptops losing WS.

That one run they scored against Cleveland in the postseason was magnificent!

Those jobs are so critical to the team that they pay below entry level for most kids with the backgrounds they require.

Bruce Levine had an at times humorous conversation with a Royals announcer talking about Pedro Grifol. He said PG "not only made Salvador Perez a great hitter, but a great person". What was Perez before he met PG that he needed to be remolded into a great person? Was he robbing banks?

Then they talked about George Brett (857 MLB ops) was named the Royals interim hitting coach. Brett resigned after a couple months. The players were gravitating more towards PG ("journeyman" career minor leaguer 599 ops) and his relying more on data than actually ever being able to hit.

Right. Because smart kids are willing to take those jobs for cheap because they think it's cool to work for a big league franchise.

My wife is a director level executive and she interviewed with the Cubs. They'll get/got someone to take that job for about half of what my wife is willing to work for just because enough people want to say they work for the Cubs. But it will be someone young and without my wife's experience.

I fail to see how analytics plays into the ability of a guy hitting a baseball. I get how it plays in aligning your defense to a hitter but to me, this gets down to bad coaching and/or refusal of the hitter to adjust to how the pitcher is pitching you and looking for a pitch that you can handle. When I see hitters failing to shorten their swing, trying to pull outside pitches, never moving around in the batter's box, etc. I shake my head. The White Sox were a great example of the failure to adapt despite having a wonderful role model in Abreu to emulate. Of the younger players, only Jimenez tried to hit the ball where it was pitched. Moncada is probably the worst performing hitter of the bunch and yet they stick his ass in the line-up game after game.Pathetic.

Can your wife HIT? Can she take a good slider or curve ball the other way? Can she play outfield and hit the cut off man? If she can, sign her up please. IF she can get through to those lug heads called a White Sox batting order, she'd have the enduring gratitude of White Sox fans throughout the world. will she "take one for the team"?

Glad he is going to adress this on September 4th. He's on the team for next year!

What was the right move for Santos in that situation?

“Step off [the mound],” Grifol said. “You’ve got two disengagements per hitter. Doesn’t matter where the runners are. He just forgot.”
Another fireable offense. It was also the first pitch of the at bat. Take the violation and ball one rather than lose the game.

These players and coaches are Caller Bob dumb.

No fundamentals whatsoever on this team and yet this idiot is guaranteed to be the manager next year.

Why the rush to commit to bringing back the manager from a team that is probably going to lose 100 games? I understand he is probably not the biggest issue on this team, but to say he doesn't have a role to play in this is ridiculous.

The organization looks horrible with the rush to hire Getz. It looks silly when are defending the manager of a team that doesn't play hard, will lose around 100 games and whose owner said is the worst season he has witnessed.

I would think they would want to keep their options open and to hiring a veteran manager if they believe that lack of effort needs to be addressed by the coaching staff.

Because Grifol is under contract and Nas's Great Uncle refuses to pay him to go away.

If he doesn't matter, then why commit to bringing him back as your first action and also state how much potential he has?

I don't think managers typically matter either, but they are usually held accountable for this level of performance.

Grifol sucks. I hope they "reconsider" at the end of the season.

That's been my thought. A good way to get the NPC monkey off Getz' back.

It's not that the manager doesn't matter. It's that his game decisions don't matter. It all shakes out in the end. Players win or players lose.

But a guy can definitely set the tone for a team. The thing is, maybe Grifol is setting a great tone and he just has a dog team. That's probably unlikely since LaRussa won 90+ games with a team that wasn't a whole lot different.

In any case, when a team lies down this badly there has to be reprecussions for the manager. Rickey got a raw deal for managing a team nowhere near as bad. They asked him to lose on purpose for two years and then canned him when they thought they were ready to win. No reason not to can this guy. Except cheapness. Or a personal relationship. And a personal relationship is what got the Sox to this point in the first place. But that's Jerry. That's the White Sox. Enjoy.

I'm pretty sure he was Getz's guy in the first place. So that probably ain't gonna happen.

The reason why there's so many bad managers is because managers don't matter. You get what you think the job is worth. And the guy you get is basically a mouthpiece because that's all the job requires. Because managers don't matter.
