I picked playoffs, but I see that as being at best a 7 seed, but more likely an 8 seed.

RFDC, the bottom half of the Eastern Conference is a crapshoot, and a losing record might earn the #7 or #8 seed a postseason ticket, whether they deserve it or not. Anyone who thinks this Bulls team can contend with the Pistons & Cavaliers in their own division, let alone the Celtics, Magic & Raptors is kidding themselves! I won't be shocked if Vinny Del Negro's Bulls earn a postseason berth with Rookie of the Year Derrick Rose guiding the way. I won't be shocked if they're back on that "Match Game"-like set at NBA Entertainment in Secaucus, NJ at the "Draft Lottery" in May. The Bulls are on that line between mediocre & being just good enough to get an early bus ticket in the postseason...

This poll is flawed. C'mon. This is the NBA. 8 teams make the playoffs in each conference.

"Making the playoffs" and "Frustratingly mediocre" can be the same thing if you are a 7 or 8 seed. Bottom seeds can be 40-42 wins in the NBA. That's mediocre.

I tend to think that 37 to 39 wins in the Eastern Conference might be good enough to earn a #7 or #8 seed. I think there were a bunch of those teams last season alone that wouldn't have made it out West, while 2 teams that were over .500 didn't make the postseason in the top heavy Western Conference.

beat me to it...but with Rose, they won't be frustrating. Maybe mediocre, but he brings hope.

I said mediocre. I'm wagering on about 38 wins.

I have to go with bad. Rose could be the best point guard in the world. If said Bulls had Chris Paul I don't think they would be NBA elite. It's what is surrounding Derek Rose that's the problem....remember MJ with Orlando Woolridge? Vinny I think can lose control of this bunch in a hurry when the team realizes that Harris is a better coach than he is. Way too many guards.
Not enough minutes and only one ball in play at a time. 30-33 wins, but if you have been paying attention I've been wrong before.

My Dear Internet Friends,
The Bulls will be bad. I have little doubt. They still have no solid inside presence and are still a team of 6th man shooters. They are a young cocky group of players who believe themselves to be much better than they are (yes, I am looking at you Mr. Gordon. Your name might rhyme with the real deal but that is as far as you get with the comparisions as far as I am concerned). They have a rookie coach with no experience and are totally reliant on a rookie guard to start their offense each play. I do not like their playoff chances at all. I put them at 35 wins if they are lucky, and it will take 40 to make the playoffs.
I still love all you goofy bastards!
Evil J.A.C.K.

They will be bad and miss the playoffs but watching Rose should be fun.

Mediocre up until the trade deadline. Paxson will be forced to make a tough decision. He has to build for the future even if it sacrifices a chance at the playoffs. I'm worried that we will constantly battle for the 7th and 8th playoff spots this year and the Bulls will try and convince themselves that they are something they are not. We've got to clear out some of our other players and hopefully get something back in return. The Bulls need to act as if they are rebuilding, even if the results on the court don't indicate that we need a major overhaul.

We are so lucky that we got the #1 pick otherwise the team would be in trouble of constant mediocrity.

the distance between elite and bad is rather large, Walt. Chris Paul in the east would mean a 4 or 5 seed with the current players. Look at how good he made N.O.

Even though I think the Bulls are good enough to earn a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, probably a #7 or #8 seed at best, I think fans should be excited about Derrick Rose and what he can do with the basketball as a true point guard. Are the Bulls good enough to challenge the Pistons & Cavaliers in the Central? No. Are they good enough to challenge the Celtics, Magic, Raptors & 76ers in the East? No. Are they on that line with the likes of the Heat, Wizards, Hawks, Bucks & maybe the Bobcats to challenge for one of the last 2 playoff spots in the East? I think they are, and it'll be a successful season if they make the playoffs in Vinny Del Negro's first season as head coach. Bulls fans, be happy with that this season if they just make it...

SHARK, how does it get them closer to a championship if they just make the playoffs? They're still the same mediocre team with just one (count 'em...one) building block for the future. I don't really care if this team goes to the playoffs or not because they're not built to win right now.

As always, you've used a lot of keystrokes to say absolutely nothing.

Unless Dwayne Wade gets injured, the Bulls and Heat will not be competing for anything. The Heat will be the most improved team this season. Wade will be top 3 in MVP voting. Beasley will be top 3 in Rookie of the Year(Oden's already got it locked up by the media).

Kid, I understand that, but look at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The Bulls might be good, or bad enough, to earn something they definitely wouldn't get if they were a Western Conference team. There were 2 Western teams that could've made it if they were in the East. I can't help it the West was top heavy with good teams last year...

As always, you've used a lot of keystrokes to say absolutely nothing.

I see a team that will be lousy for 1/2 the year before they realize that Rose is the man and the others settle into support roles. Those that take it well (Deng, Nocioni, Sefolosha, Gooden, Noah) will garner the playing time. The other guards (Gordon, Hinrich and Hughes) will pout and demand to be traded. Once a rotation is set the team will gel enough to get a low play-off seed. Optimism will abound for next year :D

Shark, you're missing my point. What exactly would the Bulls be earning by making the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round? Again I ask: Who cares if they make the playoffs if they're not built to win a championship? How many consecutive years have the Phoenix Suns made the playoffs? How many titles have they won? That's my point.

New Orleans has little chance to win it all. That's my point being a 4 or 5 seed isn't a be all end all. The East has to go through Cleveland

Yup, and I think that's probably his easiest task. The toughest task will be learning how to defend at an NBA level.
