Starting to see stuff pointing the finger squarely at George McKaskey for the current state of the franchise.

Odd to see locally because the local media typically falls all over themselves trying to deflect blame from George, remember hearing Hub belittle any caller who rightly blamed George for the series of bad hires at GM and HC.

As with all things you must step back to gain perspective, but it would be nearly impossible for anyone to screw up as spectacularly as the Bears have over the past 10 plus years. When presented with two or three finalists for GM or HC, George will always hire the wrong guy, in fact, he has hired guys that nobody else would pick as a candidate, let alone make a finalist list.

You have gotten a series of GM's that are inept at college scouting which is a death sentence for any NFL franchise.

The rest of the NFL laughed when Pace traded up to pick Mitch, the move set the franchise back 5 years, because Pace then doubled down by giving away even more draft capital in a desperate job saving effort.

George is the one that pulled the trigger on all these hires, he has final say on everything, the stench you smell emanating from the organization is totally due to his often bizarre football thoughts.

They have to hire consultants to fill front office positions.
They are not football people.
Ted Phillips is so proud of his Soldier Field renovation while other owners mock them.
The McCaskey clan is in over their heads.

At this point I think we should hire a head coach that's never been one before and a GM that's never been one before.

It's really remarkable how little the Halas' have progressed in 4 generations since George.

He had 13 grandchildren, who have produced an untold number of great grandchildren. They should have insinuated themselves into every facet of life in this city by now with businessmen, politicians, judges, philanthropists, statesmen and even clergy. Instead, it seems like most of them are employed in the ticket department

It shocks me that none of the great grandchildren have wanted to learn the business either. Either the actual football side or the business side. Can't believe none of George Halas's offspring have showed any interest.

I'm only familiar with the other owners in this city, and I don't think any of them have attained the level of insinuation you described. Are you familiar with some franchise owning family somewhere else who has done this?

In the running for biggest failure franchise in sports. Like the Bulls and Sox, nothing changes until ownership does.

I find it odd, ironic, or sad, not sure which or maybe all three, that a franchise with no discernable owner that sells fake stock can be successful for 30+ straight years while ours, owned by the family of one of the league's founding fathers, terminally wallows in the mire.

The Wirtzes had some well-distributed power. At one point they briefly made it illegal to break a contract with Judge & Dolph. However, Rocky pretty much cashed out of the liquor business. I'd say the first generation makes it, second spends it, third loses it, but Bill never spent anything, so Rocky had to make up for lost time.

Have seen the same pattern repeatedly in family owned businesses.

Founders are driven people that build a good business from scratch.

Second generation grew up watching the founders work hard, but have none of the vision or work ethic of the founders, but are able to keep the business going with the ongoing assistance of the founders.

The third generation consists of spoiled brats who never bothered to learn anything about the business, they keep yes men and women around to run the day to day operations so they can avoid working at all costs, they eventually either bankrupt or sell the business.

The NFL TV money insulates the kids and grandkids, it allows dullards like George to repeatedly run a franchise into the ground.

I think you can only run something into the ground once.

cubs are first generation owners
bulls and sox- JR kids do ok. Only one is involved in sports. One was a lawyer with a big firm and has moved on to business. The other was fairly big in real estate but died young. Reinsdorfs are really only into the second generation for productivity in terms of age. The grandkids are probably all under 25.
