The City, the fans, the coaches, the offensive and defensive ines, the receivers, the defensive backs, the running backs, everyone, has failed Justin Fields. What happens now?

Even on the interception his helmet visor made the bronco and bear jerseys appear similar. He wouldn't have launched it had it not been for being color blinded. Even his equipment accessories have made it hard on him. Time for him to join a team that actually wants him to succeed.

Rush Limbaugh got fired from ESPN for his line that the media was "desirous that a black quarterback do well" in reference to Donovan McNabb. I think there's a little of that here, but this time around, most people know better than to say it. Fields is a likable, dynamic, and talented quarterback, and that should be enough to want to see him dig the Bears out of their hole. But it's Chicago in the 2020s, so there needs to be that little extra dash of race warfare. The Bears have typically had white quarterbacks other than CFL Legend Henry Burris and that time Kordell Stewart placeheld for Rex Grossman, and bad white quarterbacks at that, so Fields isn't just refreshingly talented, he's Progress. The people who think that Fields cannot fail, he can only be failed are the ones who think they're plunging some knife through the heart of deez-and-doze Bears fans by having them be successful with a black quarterback who runs: we're doing it our way, not your way, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Problem is that the situation is so dire for the Bears, having pretty much been garbage for the last 30 years, that I don't think anyone outside the media class cares about any of that nonsense. (Maybe Brogue.) Bears fans are desirous that any quarterback do well at this point, one would have to think. But at this point, I think it's obvious that Fields can fail and be failed in equal measure, and that once again, this guy is not the guy, and everyone should be able to say it by now.

I said weeks ago Curious that people are “desirous” of Fields doing well. The question is why is (((Bersnsie))) so invested in this? Cutler never ever got this cushion. Erik Cramer makes him look like a clown by the numbers. Why? Someone answer the question?

Cutler absolutely got a cushion like this from the Score, though. I don't remember whether he ever shit the bed like Fields has this year, but they definitely forgave a multitude of sins for a while there.

Don't do triple-parentheses.

Ok I thought it was funny. I do remember Bernsie score etc were Cutler excited at the beginning. At the end however I feel I remember he is a bad guy pouty guy horrible teammate etc. fields gets no shit for being bad. Intentional grounding and interceptions ending games… crickets.

Who cares? Let Getsy be the interim head coach, move the QB coach to OC, and let Nathan Peterman be the player-QB coach.

i remember when vince evans played - may have started 30-35 games, without today's rules to encourage 475 yards passing by each side and 38-34 games. no big deal about race. today, race is a big deal. who made it so?

There’s a large bloc of people who like to fight fights that have already been won.

It allows for retroactive right-side-of-history or some such nonsense.

No, I think MANY were afraid to criticize Fields because of Chicago's balck quarterback history AND because they were mesmerized by his raw talent.

Everyone is guilty of struggling with change/evolution. That's why everyone thinks nearly everything that happened when they were kids or young was better.

i think many were afraid to criticize fields because they feared getting canceled and having their careers destroyed. vince evans not mentioned by football, chicago and race experts. 30-35 starts.

Is it really coaching or is it lack of talent? The Bears were 3-4 last year before Poles threw in the towel and traded Roquan Smith. They've never recovered from that. Tearing it down is the easy part!

I think Bobby Douglass was almost exactly the same as Fields. He sucked too.

There are a thousand better Bears pods/columns than this one, Lil' Danny is several weeks to a month behind the real smart fans with his rather pedestrian football thoughts, the smarties have already moved on to pondering HC/GM, FA's, and draft picks for next season.

Do see the rather lonely looking Larry Holmes thing amongst the far superior options, but have never wasted time looking at it and would do the same to anything from WSCR staff other than the Olin, Herron, and Long snapper stuff, do you really need WSCR hosts doing columns in today's world where you get far superior football thoughts from so many other places?

This is from the same guy that thought Nagy was a genius, rather shallow football mind, and from a station that trotted out Hub as their Bears guru for decades, skip this crap and save time.

It must be really hard for Larry to watch other people doing his Bears postgame stuff, he has been relegated to recording his football takes on his phone in a closet at his apartment, this guy is hanging on to his spot by his fingertips.

 Boy do I wish you worked at the Score and uttered that thought. Just to see the other hosts on the station, texters and callers heads melt. Non-withstanding the fact its is a very accurate description.

They were heavily invested in Cutler because he came here with their approval as a ready made package. His failure was a direct indictment of the hosts' ability to discern talent, kind of like Vukovich.

Didn't Cutler's first game as a Bear feature 4 INTs, one of which thrown to a DT in the red-zone? The apologizing for him started very early on WSCR.

In fact I think in the span of a calendar year, Score hosts went from complaining that the offense doesn't use TEs to help block to give Cutler time, to complaining that Mike Martz's offense uses TEs exclusively to block.
