I'm a believer that most successful teams have two things that they will depend on a lead them to victory. One is a very good offensive line and the other is a very good defensive line. A "GREAT" mobile quarterback can cover for a mediocre Oline but nothing can really cover for a very bad defensive line.

For all of the hand wringing about Bagent and Fields weaknesses, I believe that even a HOF quarterback couldn't reach a championship with the Bear's two lines. No pass rush. soft zones, no blitzing equals NO WINS. Look at that game yesterday. The Chargers went up 17 points easily against Eberflush's soft zone. What did the Bears lose by??? 17 points

This loss was lost by Eberflus's scheme decisions. They came out of the locker room defeated by PLAN.

Hawkaroo, the game was lost because the Chargers have talent and the Bears don't.

I saw Bagent make some very good throws with a lot of finesse like the one right over the linebacker to the flat on the left. You don't make those throws unless you have talent.

When have you seen a Bears QB complete a 40+ yard pass on the first set of downs?

It was his first road game. Now he has the experience. More than Bagent, it was the defense who lost this game. Choke job.

Bagent has been better in 2 starts than Fields has been in nearly every game of his career. We have no patience for him and demand that he's a finished product. It's insane.

why did they not put him on IR? Can they do it retroactively so that they could elevate another marginal nfl talent

This will be the third week already.

Are they trying to trade him? The announcers were carrying a lot of water last night for someone. While I agreed with a lot of their statements, someone within the Bears organization doesn't care for Fields. It may be a lot of people.

Someone?

Poles, Eberflus, and Getsy for starters.

I had the sound down as I was working while watching. Bernstein seemed very concerned by it

Bernstein was being a drama queen. It was clear that at least one person in the organization isn't happy with Fields.

I really don’t understand this, and it’s not just woke Score hosts. The narrative that Bagent’s ceiling is a journeyman backup (I heard McNown as a comparison) is everywhere. Why is that? Do the Power Five NCAA teams not like that there could be another route to the NFL?

How can they possibly know this after just two starts? Watching Garrapolo last night, and I’m thinking Eastern might have a tough time with some division two schools—and they produced Jimmy G and Romo.

I’m not saying Bagent will be great, just that it is too early to tell.

at the very least, he hasn't sucked as badly as some high drafted picks who became busts. There is something there. I don't think its a good starting QB but it is definitely NFL caliber talent.

Oh wait we have an angry white man. I guess it's not only MAGA folks that are angry.

And Fields himself said, they were giving him too much information.

I'm not ready to close the door on him being a competent starter. He's been reasonably accurate with the ball and has made the offensive line look respectable.

70% completions and not afraid to throw long or into tight coverage. He's been very accurate.

I wish he would have run a bit more last week. Apparently, mobile qb upset Getsy's plans

He's 100% quarterbacky, he's pretty much accurate, and he feels the rush.

Does it make up for that not average NFL arm? I mean, it's fine if he's on two solid legs, it's pretty bad when he's ad libbing.

My initial feeling about him is he'd pick your ass apart with time in the pocket. And obviously, that's where the legit comparison with Purdy comes in.

I think his arm is fine. It's not a top tier arm, but it's nowhere near Chad Pennington either.

Yes. IMO. But listen, Joe Fucking Montana had no arm ad libbing either. It can be done.

This kid made it to this level training like Rocky and watching YouTube videos. How great can he be with a state of the art training facility and NFL coaching?

Didnt he have one where he rolled left threw across his body, over the LB and hit Kmet in stride for 15 yards ? Nothing wrong with his arm on that play.

Finesse throw. The argument here is the 30 yd throws over the middle while on the run. NFL DB's are arguably the best athletes on the field and that can sometimes ONLY be counteracted with a rifle attached to the QB's shoulder. It's kind of the whole point of Justin Fields.
