That would have been a big gain down the sideline without having to use one of the timeouts. His reaction time is too slow for the NFL.

Yep. That's a huge gain. Ball has to come up.

That’s a great still shot. Thank you and I stand corrected. He did fucking turn and Fields still couldn’t pull the trigger. Looks like the perfect play call to me. If you can’t make that throw you you shouldn’t be starting anywhere.

That's real bad, but we've seen many variations on it since his rookie season. Just pull the trigger. I guess this makes it clear why there was no help on Hutchinson. The ball was supposed to come out very quickly.

Roschon Johnson has terrible vision so if it makes any of you feel better, it's quite possible he runs directly into Kmet's back.

That's an incorrect assessment of a photo. He got stripped less than half a second later? Maybe blame the RT for not giving him 1 more second to throw the ball?

Or Fields could use his eyes and athleticism to make the adjustment.

Yes you would want your tackle to get a bigger piece of the rusher but the ball should have been in the air before the RB turns. Fields is late with his read and reaction. I will stick with my original assessment.

He’s slow to read the defense and deliver the ball. It’s rinse repeat. It is the reason he misses open men, gets hit and stripped a lot, and fails to win games.

He has the size, speed and arm strength to play the position. But he has a massive hole in his game.

If he moves up and left on that play he would have plenty of time.

It makes you wonder if they have known Fields will never be the guy all along, they must be incredibly frustrated with his inability to execute the offense, you bring in an UDFA QB and the kid leads your team to a few unexpected wins just by getting the ball out to the open guy.

They run the ball well, but cannot take advantage of the D crowding the line because their QB cannot see the open guys, they cannot take advantage of the D playing zone because their QB cannot see the guys getting into open zones and cannot throw guys open as they head toward open zones, your offensive game plan is always going to be limited.

Yeah but just think of what Kyle Shanahan could do with Fields as his quarterback!!!

Fields could have had those unexpected wins too. He's not as good as we thought he was, but he is still better than Bagent..

It's really amazing that people like Chase Daniel can declare Fields is "here to stay," when you consider:

This year, despite having more talent and weapons than last year, and another year in the system, and a much easier schedule, Fields has won ONE game. ONE. And that single win was against the heinous Commanders.

Add in the five separate injuries he's had and all the missed games...how can anyone, other than media looking for clicks, think Poles will bet his own career on Fields?

It's ridiculous. You're going to have to pick up his 5th year option and extend him. Saying he's been a mediocre quarter is being generous. No GM worth a damn would bet their career on Fields when they could draft Maye, Williams, or another quarterback in the top 5.

is there a number that makes FIelds worth keeping around?

https://overthecap.com/player/jordan-love/8766 ($13.5 mil for 1 season)

https://overthecap.com/player/geno-smith/2249 (looks like 20 mil a season btw salary and guaranteed bonus + perf bonuses possible)

https://overthecap.com/player/daniel-jones/7797 (about $40 mil a season total comp, with 20 mil a season guaranteed at signing--wtf Giants?! )

Sure, you're not going anywhere with Fields as QB1 long-term. but defenses hate playing against him, for the most part. and Fields has shown improvement recently.

Lotta shitty QB's starting in the league these days. Some team should've grabbed Cooper Rush from out behind Dak. Cowboys got a steal re-signing him for only $3 mil a season.

Rush is 30 years old? Holy crap, didn't realize he was that old already.

https://overthecap.com/player/baker-mayfield/6886 only $4 mil for 1 season for Mayfield. Mayfield's been alright this season, 66% completion, 15 TD against 6 picks.

He could play for free and it wouldn't make sense keeping him. The 2024 quarterback class may be the best in 40 years. The Bears are likely going to have multiple first round picks. They can finally solve their quarterback problem. We all know a great quarterback guarantees annual playoff appearances.

The guy who does the wonky analytics based Unexpected Points podcast made a pretty good case one time for a team with multiple top 10 picks taking 2 QB's with em. this was either last year or year before, maybe Giants had 2 picks in top 10? Might've been Jets, which would just be guaranteeing they'd take 2 busts off the board.

His argument was that at best it's 50/50 on top 10 QB picks; QB is insanely important to the success of a franchise---esp if you can hit on a draft pick and have 5 years of a low cap number on your QB1.

+ he noted that with the value of QB's in general in the league, there's a good chance you could flip the 2nd guy down the road for draft capital. interesting to hear an analytics guy make the argument, but I don't think a team should do it. QB's important, but you also need O-Line and receiver(s) and what about defense.

I think the best way to get the right quarterback at the top of the draft is to figure out a way to measure how a kid handles pressure, how quickly they can process information under pressure, and how competitive they are. MANY of these kids are just gifted athletes who have been surrounded by elite talent their entire lives.

Talent, experience, and infrastructure are also important, but if you are likely to piss yourself at the first sign of trouble, those things are worthless.

I thought Burrow was Him. There are more tools available today to help teams get the intangible part right.

only 3 QB's projected in top 10: Williams/May/Nix and then 2 more in the 1st round overall, Penix/McCarthy:

I didn't screenshot all the prompts I used; there is one showing the included url I wanted the info extracted/summarized from.

I did the same for the others, found the link and asked chatgpt to generate the clean list of QB's or Mock Draft order; so it is relatively up to date. but I just didn't screenshot the entire conversation with my prompt including the current link to extract from for all of em.

It's more up to date if you pay the 20 dollars but, yeah, ChatGPT's base/primary training data set cuts off like in 2021. I think it's Sept 2021 for the free 3.5 version and December 2021 for 4.0 in the paid version. You get other things as well with paid--including API keys to access it from like a CLI or via your own software program and supposedly overall faster/better/more accurate results with 4.0 vs 3.5. Oh yeah, you also get the DALL-E image manipulation/generation function in paid. Good for creating graphics/flow-charts/deep fake pr0n.

ChatGPT will also "bing" your prompt to try to return current data, which doesn't work all that great.

I hadn't pulled any of ESPN's mocks and fed it to ChatGPT (if you prompt ChatGPT with data, it usually remembers what you submitted and will spit it back if asked for the same thing or something similar again). So I prompted it sans any urls to just find ESPN's mock drafts for 2024.

Image

Interesting that it appears to be able to peer into ESPN's paywalled ESPN Insider content but won't return it. Maybe with a DAN prompt it'd bring that back too? But those change every freaking day it seems. Difficult to find one that still works.

I imagine the top 3 on draft day will be those 3 players (maybe with the order shuffled). but after that, who knows.

1st 3 picks will be QB’s.. maybe 1st 4 picks.. if the Bears wind up with 2 of the top 3 they will trade too far back with someone to land Harrison.. tho Harrison will be the 1st non-QB taken imo.

We already know Poles has zero patience or tact when it comes to trades so being frugal enough to make a decent gain by trading back just one or two slots isn’t in his skill set (he could have done this last year with Houston, then traded the #2 with Carolina for pretty much the same haul -they were desperate). Only way this changes is if house gets cleaned and we get a new GM and coaches.. which is what I’d do if I were running the team, Poles and company ain’t it.
