Zoraida Sambolin is the Weekday Edition co-anchor of NBC5 News Today and special assignment reporter and fill-in news anchor for Telemundo Chicago.
Prior to joining NBC5, Sambolin was the creator and Emmy award-winning host of "Small Talk for Parents" on WYCC-TV and "Nuestros Ninos" on WSNS-TV from 1999 to 2002. Prior to that, she was the director of broadcasting for the Chicago City Colleges.
A Chicago native, Sambolin attended Loyola University. She is married with two children and lives in Chicago

Zoraida Sambolin is easy on the eyes, and it seemed as if she & the Jimmy Fallon-looking Rob Elgas worked well together when they worked on the weekends before she & Ellie Pae Hong traded places at the anchor desk inside Studio 5 downtown. I think ratings had a lot to do with Rob & Zoraida doing weekday mornings together, shifting Ellie Pae to Saturday & Sunday mornings & Dick Johnson to street reporting. NBC 5 bosses were less than thrilled with the ratings Dick & Ellie Pae couldn't generate before "Today", and decided a few months ago to hand weekdays over to Rob & Zoraida between 4:30-7a Monday-Friday. Speaking of Dick, there's talk that he & weekend evening anchor Rob Stafford are in the running for Warner Saunders' 10p anchor seat alongside Allison Rosati weeknights once Warner steps down next May. The smart money points toward Bob Sirott succeeding Warner. Stafford has a really good gig Saturday & Sunday nights with Anna Davlantes & meteorologist Ginger Zee...Talk about "Must See TV!"

I had a brush with Lauren Jiggetts the other day in Edgewater where I believe she was reporting on the early voting deadline. While I've always thought she looked very bangable on my TV screen, she disappointed in person. She's way too thin and suffers from a Hapsburgian protruding jaw that is made all the more unfortunate due to her advanced emaciation. She needs to have Dad bring her over a couple of spinning buckets, in which I might favorably reevaluate her bangability.

Hawkeye Vince, you are correct. Ellie Pae DID make the call herself to shift to Saturday & Sunday mornings. I'm reasonably sure that NBC 5 bosses shifted Zoraida & Rob to weekday mornings due to disappointing ratings for their morning newscast.
