JJ can play just fine, he’s the most efficient QB in college, has a surprisingly big arm, great size/athleticism combo and plays well within the design of Harbaughs offense. He’s also got plenty of experience (a lot of the top QB’s coming out this year do).
Any time you can get a quarterback who was trusted to throw 28 total passes for 208 yards in the two games they played against elite competition you have to take him.

A first round QB goes out and lights up Alabama. Will Harbaugh let him throw it though?

I don’t think JJ will be in the top 5 QB’s selected this year. He should be available in the 2nd or 3rd round. Having watched him multiple times the past two seasons I think he’s intriguing because he has all the physical talent to put up bigger numbers. If the Bears decide to keep Fields, draft Harrison Jr with their 1st pick and go with say a top defensive player with their 2nd pick.. grabbing a guy like McCarthy in the 3rd round and letting him sit for a year while they give Fields one more chance is an option.

McCarthy is a winner; he's only 20, he has the size, the arm, the athleticism, the accuracy, he processes quickly, and he's a local. The more I watch him, the more I like him.

yea that's better than perpetually trading them away for shit

Setting aside (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. Imagine if we didn't make the Fields and Thieving Mack trades?

Thieving Mack who's leading the Chargers in sacks (15) /tackles for loss (16). 4th in tackles, 1st on Chargers in forced fumbles and QB hits.

He managed to rediscover his all pro status in a contract year. It's amazing how that works.

The CBS mock has us trading for Fields. We give you guys a 3rd and a conditional 3rd in 2025. If we had a smart OC without an ego who would design something around his strengths it might be something to consider. We don't even know who our OC will be next season.

I've been hearing about a ridiculous trade involving Crosby and picks for #1 that's crazy talk. If Daniels drops I could see us moving up but I don't believe there is any interest in moving up to #1.

anyone that is traded to chicago needs to do as little as possible and not get hurt, until his last year then show you can still do it but dont be good enough the bears resign you.

The Bears would be stupid to trade that far back in a draft like this where guys like Williams, Maye, and Harrison Jr all could be had. Their potential is far more valuable than Crosby. Imo it would be a fireable if Poles did that. That trade makes absolutely no sense for the Bears -they can’t keep kicking the draft down the road, at some point you need to make those high picks and this is the draft to do that in.

McCarthy may be the most fundamentally sound quarterback in this draft. He moves well in the pocket, he's competitive, he has the arm talent, the size, the speed, and the processing.

That dumbass at CBS has the dumbest takes on the draft.

In that column he has the Vikings trading for Kyler Murray, and MHJ falling to the Pats with the fourth pick   :

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/new ... -no-4/amp/

And he thinks that Murray will bring more and higher picks than Fields from a team that would have to take on at least a good chunk of the salary/ ~$50M cap hit over the next four years.

I can see this happening. CoD has shown that he can be a top quarterback with an elite receiver.

With that salary/cap hit, though?

The one that had me rolling was MHJ falling to the #4. That ain’t happening.

Murray is definitely better than Fields and would command a higher price in a trade. The biggest difference between Murray and Fields is Murray actually throws the ball.

…and about $45M a year.

Murray’s best game in his 7 this season was this past Sunday vs. the Bears: 230/2/0.

The other 6 games he has a total of 4 TDs/4 INTs and his season high in yards was 256.

Better than Fields? Yup. $45M better? Please…

Whether Fields cost 400M or 4$, what's exciting about a guy who's gonna rank in the low 20s at best overall at QB?

The thinking may be they would have to pay an aging Cousins a similar salary. There aren't many options available and they didn't suck enough to be in the top QB sweepstakes.

I agree, there is a near zero chance that he isn't a top 3 pick.

Could be. I’m not trading three picks and taking on that salary to find out, though.

Murray is a better thrower, a more accurate thrower, turns the ball over less, and actually is the reason his team won games.

I don't want either of them, but I would take a healthy CoD if I was forced to choose. Murray averaged 270 yardage passing for a season. Fields has thrown for 270 yards about 5 times in his career.

Here's a better link that includes 2023, a down year for Murray and a "renaissance" year for Fields.

https://stathead.com/football/vs/justin ... ler-murray

Fields sack rate is just about double that of Murray.

I don't think Fields will have 15k passing yards in his career.

Yep. Even adding rushing Murray is at a about 280 yards from scrimmage on average and Fields is around 218. Then when you deduct yards lost on sacks and whatnot the disparity increases. It's basically an insult to Murray to place him in the same sentence as Fields. Fields at best is a poor man's Murray, but even that seems like a stretch. Fields is closer to T.rubisky than he is to Murray.

Adding MHJ dramatically upgrades your WR room, but you also need a #3, not much behind Moore.

Drafting/signing a center upgrades your line, you also need another depth piece, Davis tends to take the offseason off and misses early games and Jenkins is often injured, you do look to have NFL starting level players at 4 spots on the oline.

Would seem FA paper will go toward an edge rusher, the D has tons of young talent on the back end, the front 7 is almost there with the development of Dexter.

The team is very close to competing in the NFC, of course it all comes down to the QB decision, but you have almost QB proofed the team, any solid vet QB could come in here and do well if they make a few offensive upgrades.

I have to say how amusing it is to read people telling me that Murray is a better quarterback than Fields. That really is hilarious.

You’re an idiot. Anyone who thinks Fields is a better QB than Murray doesn’t have NFL Sunday Ticket or hasn’t been watching Cardinals games at 3pm the last few years. I don’t blame you for not watching. I wouldn’t want to either — but Murray is clearly superior.
