I thought you had heard some breaking news...Yeah, the price he could get now, would have to be a lot lower than when Cuban initially submitted his offer. They said that none of the offers was binding, so even if Cubans offer was accepted now, he could pull it off the table now. It might be some time before we get new ownership.

Does nothing ever happen easily for the Cubs? The team finally comes up for sale, hits the open market...the fans get excited to finally get away from bullshit corporate ownership....Zell, the money-making-Guru, drags his feet on the process trying to squeeze every dime out of the deal...the dickhead Govorner tries to put his grimmy little hands into the deal by getting the state of Illinois involved....Selig puts his head in the sand and allows Zell to keep / have ownership / stake of two MLB teams, breaking long established MLB ownership rules....

and then....

We have a near global collapse of the economy (except for Nort & las vegas casinos) which only MUCKS UP the sale process even further.

Does it really take three years to sell a MLB team? When its the Cubs...nothing is ever easy, and nothing ever seems normal.

my inside scoop is just confirming the obvious at this point, that funding is an issue with the people that have MLB votes in place. I do have confirmation that Cuban does not have the votes. This does not mean people have voted against him and if all else fails he could then get them.

I've heard that there is no way Selig and the other owners would approve Cuban purchasing the Cubs, even if he was the highest bidder! It's ridiculous. Let's think about it, he does about everything possible to ensure the success of the Dallas Mavericks. Sure, he's an outspoken owner.... but if he's willing to fork over the amount of money purchasing the Cubs would cost him, I say LET THE MAN SPEAK!

I think he'd be a great owner for the Cubs.

Part of the problem with the rumored sale of the Cubs and why things have stalled has to do with the global economic crisis and that those are interested may not have the $$$$ to buy the team, believed to be $1 billion. It's also unclear if the Cubs will include the team's stake in Comcast SportsNet & Wrigley Field in the final price tag. CNBC's Darren Rovell seems to think that if they include the regional sports network & the ballpark, the price would indeed be $1 billion, but less without them. Deep down, I wonder if MLB Commissioner Allan H. Selig and his fellow owners are playing back door politics in this process...
