For the Bears sure, what else have they had to play for in a while.

I disagree with that assessment then. As for your point of comparison, WHO IS DAVIS MILLS? Are you telling me that someone named Davis Mills should be the next Bear's qb?

Fields has great escapability, yet he also has the highest sack rate among NFL starting QBs over the past three years. He has a strong and accurate arm, yet he ranks 30th in QBR, 29th in yards/attempt, and has thrown for 230+ yards only 6 times in his entire career. He's also last in the NFL in time/pass since he entered the league.

Last year, Davis Mills was one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL while playing for the league's second-worst team and has been replaced in the starting lineup by C.J. Stroud. Yet even he managed to amass as many games with 230+ yards passing in 17 starts as Fields has in 38 starts.

Fields is not a future All-Pro. He's just a below average QB who has interspersed some great plays with many more bad ones. He is occasionally transcendent but consistently mediocre.

Have you ever coached players in a physical sport? If you have you should know that when you see a young person being able to use his physical talents to make terrific plays you want to groom that athlete into a star for your team do you not? Coaches take great time and energy in developing these prospects because they make the rest of the job of winning games so much easier.

I think that you and many others get so locked into past performance stats that you fail to consider why the player failed as in terrible help from the rest of the team poor coaching, etc. I see people on this board bringing up Fields past QBRs, Wins versus losses, etc. I say bullcrap to that. I say that when you have a guy with Fields immense talent, that you build around that talent and forget the stats which were accumulated during a time where he was getting the crap kicked out of him because of bad support and the learning curve for all young qbs.

You say that Fields is "JUST A BELOW AVERAGE QB". But you admit that he has the ability of making transcendental plays. I don't think that this is really the case for him. There is no pass that he cannot complete. He still has things he needs to get better at as in limiting his fumbles and looking the defenders off the receiver targeted.

Bottom line. they need to grow this guy into a pro bowl player and put a damn dynasty in place. this should be a heady time for Bear's fans going forward.

When I look at these rankings, they seem to match up with eye test. Tua and CJ seem too low, and Gardner too high. But about right.

I made the same point yesterday. His most spectacular plays are improvisations that arise from his inability to play within a structured offense.

While his rare improvisational ability allows him to turn some of his failures into successes, it also undermines the overall effectiveness of the offense.

Question is can you almost QB proof a team, maybe I did not explain this well in my earlier posts, but the concept is building a roster so strong that you can win with almost any QB, tons of examples of this, Rex Grossman, Nick Foles, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, and of course Jim McMahon.

You could certainly do that with Fields, you would get tons of draft capital by trading down, pick a generational WR in MHJ, stack the roster with high draft picks, you could build and roster so good that you only need competent QB play.

The opposite can also be true, QBs that can carry an average roster, Brady is the most obvious and the Packers always had a punchers chance with Rodgers, and Peyton Manning in his prime.

Trade down a few spots, get a ton of picks, draft whatever QB you think will be good besides Williams or Maye.

If we assume the bears will never get the qb position correct, it would be best to max out the talent around the position

The Fields Cult's last stand. Get that weak shit outta here! The drop a quarterback in shit is a myth.

The Rams didn't build up a team before trying to get a quarterback. They tried to build a team around Goff, but McVay decided to move on, and they traded for Stafford. The Eagles tried to build an offense around Wentz, but decided to move on when he couldn't stay healthy and began to suck. The 49ers tried to build an offense around Jimmy G and Lance but decided to move on when they lucked into Purdy.

Guard is rising dramatically on the needs list

Everything whispered about Davis proved to be true. Jenkins was remarkably durable but I wouldn’t rely on that.

They could realistically address QB, WR, C and maybe DT or S in the draft.

Leaves a ton of cap to spend on competent pros to give some depth to the lines.

There are several good safeties going to fa. They’ll be able to cover that position reasonably

Free agency happens first. If they attack that the right way, it'll create a lot of flexibility in the draft for them.

I can see 7 or 8 home wins. IF Poles gets this offseason right, we're looking at 10-12 wins.

NFC West and AFC South? Other than being seal-clubbed at the 49ers, that's a relatively easy draw.

Talk about an easy schedule...they play five of the six worst teams in the league.

Yeah, the 49ers game is the only one I expect to lose. I know things can change quickly, but the Bears should make the playoffs next year, even with a rookie quarterback.

I’m seeing maybe 2 road wins and a generous 6ish wins at home.

Can they get the Raiders at 13 or the Saints at 14 to take 9 and Fields for their pick and a 2025 1?

There should still be the top or second edge rusher available at 13 or 14. You aren't going to draft a guard or center in the top 15, which is what they will need to protect a rookie QB.

The Green Bay loss magnified you known weaknesses, for some reason Green Bay knows the Bears personnel better than the Bears, they seem to be in Fields head as well, he seems to tap out in games against the Packers. The coaches also seemed to have no plan B, it seemed Love was calling exactly what D the Bears were playing on each snap and he picked apart the Cover 2 by wearing out the open zone between the CB and S, Eberflus never adjusted, he looked resigned to his fate.

Everyone sees the need at center, that has been talked about here, so that will be a priority, you could use a guard as well, your lack of depth and talent on the interior of the offensive line likely lost you at least three games this year.

They should have sat Fields in this game, not sure if he hurt his trade value, but the Green Bay performance certainly did not help.

Still think you trade out of #1 back to #2 and let someone else draft Caleb Willams, take Maye and use #9 for the best WR left on the board, you could also move back from #9 and still upgrade your WR 2 spot, it would not take much as the current WR room is Moore and a bunch of number 4/5 WR's.

May take a look at a veteran RB, a guy that can break a tackle or catch the ball out of the backfield would help the offense, but the offense is devoid of talent in most spots, so you need playmakers.

A ton of work still to be done, but of course the franchise altering decision will be QB, you have plenty of tape on Fields, you know who he is, there should be no last second mind changing going on right now, you should have numberous contingency plans lined up already.
